The factionless born children, hate the factions as they have been born only to never be given hope for a brighter future. The children exposed purely to the evil of the factions creates a hatred from ignorance, children attacked Dauntless patrols from ignorance. Dauntless became more violent. When the violence grew the adults created a system. It didn't work for everyone but for others it saved their life.
The five factions (or six if your count the factionless, and I do) are named below, you can identify them by their attitude's clothes.
· Candor for the honest they wear black and white (chic)
· Erudite for the intelligent and wear blue (Fancy)
· Amity for the peaceful and wear orange, yellow and red (Noooooo! Why!)
· Abnegation for the selfless and wear grey (Seriously)
· Dauntless for the brave and wear black (Scary)
· Factionless for the no-bodies and wear all colours (Yeah!)
The system works by letting all ages can join as long as they are factionless. There are five main titles factionless can achieve.
Level 1. Name: Pocketer, steals from people walking in the factionless area who aren't factionless, spy on people in the city to get information on what's the latest news, protect the factionless area from threats, find weapons from the Dauntless to train with and be armed with. Privileges: Extra clean clothes, water, food and shower uses.
Level 2. Name: Tutor, to train the pick pocketers, teach the children how to read and write. Privileges: Extra water, food and shower uses.
Level 3. Name: Keeper, cleans all the rooms and bathroom, cooks the food. Privileges: Extra food and water.
Level 4. Name: Scavenger, looks for food, water and clothes. Privileges: A small portion of what they find.
Level 5. Name: Stray, nothing, sick, elderly and young have this title Privilege: A small portion of everything.
The higher the level, the riskier the game, the higher the reward.
No one other than my mother and I know who I am. If they did I would die, I go by Cara. I was born in the factions but I do not remember life from then, I was too young when we left. However, despite faking our deaths my mother soon left me and so I joined the system. It is lonely but I continue to see the next morning which is what matters. I have been a pocketer for the past four choosing ceremonies.
Something strange happened two choosing ceremonies ago. I was sent to give a message to an old Dauntless, when an Abnegation boy climbed into the old mans' window. Seeing as it was unusual for any Abnegation to do anything inside of the buildings. I chose to spy through the same window. The old man in the room with the boy,
"What are you doing here?"
"I was just. . . I saw a fire. That's all"
"Oh. . . thanks, I guess." The old Dauntless replied
I couldn't hear much more as they shuffled away from the broken window.
"She used to... food. Pretty...
I would deliver the message later.
That was years ago and I still remember. The old dauntless died soon after, probably from old age so I never had a chance to ask if he knew the boy. I haven't seen the boy either since then.
There was meeting called some time ago where only the adults were allowed to go. Apparently the council had realised that there were quite a few children among the factionless and demanded that all who were eligible would part take in the up coming Choosing ceremony. They have one condition, that your parents need to have been born from the same faction. Unfortunately for the council, as soon as children are old to survive, parents abandon them. However, with no paper work in the factionless any who are thought to be old enough and who want to will go to the school for the aptitude test.
There is one issue with the council wanting the factionless teens to complete the Choosing ceremony. The Factionless have naturally split into group those in the system and those in Evelyn Jonson's group, few people survive long alone. The two groups don't work together and stay as separated as possible.
At dinner I sat next to my friends in one of the houses all my friends are either cleaners or trainers. Emily has murky green eyes, dirty blond hair (don't call her a dumb blond, she will punch you). The twins a near identical except Andy, she has mud brown eyes and long black hair and Alex has a light tan. Dan that sort of face that you can never remember.
"What's the problem now Raven. You look like you're about to throw-up." Said Emily," I am doing my thinking face you idiot!" "But what are you thinking about specifically?" Questioned Dan." think about it we'll be mixing with Evelyn's people won't the faction leaders be suspicious of us." Said Alex." For once he said something smart." I say. "Hey" guess who said that." Anyway, are any of you coming with me to the meeting?" I say because I know they hate meetings in fact it is a well-known fact among the cleaners so whenever there is a meeting we make sure to tease them every single time.
"Nobody volunteering, what a pity everybody has to go unless they are reported dead, ok. Good." The twins maturely stuck out their tongues and angerly muttered under their breaths.
I left the table no longer hungry, to go find a space on the floor to rest before the meeting.
