She closed her eyes.
Just for a second — but it was enough.
She wanted it too. Or... didn't she?
And then Kyra happened. One sentence. One laugh. One voice — and the moment was gone.
He'd pulled away too fast. Too sharp. Too cold.
*"No, of course not."*
The words still echoed in his head — hollow, wrong. And yet, he'd said them.
Because it was easier to push her away than to face what he felt.
He didn't dare look back at her.
He didn't want to see her face.
Not the confusion.
Not the hurt.
Not the disappointment.
He couldn't handle it.
Not from her.
Not now.
That strange warmth in his chest — it scared him more than he'd ever admit.
The way her eyes lit up when she laughed.
The way her voice calmed something in him without even trying.
He had almost kissed her.
And God, he had wanted to.
More than anything.
And now... he was pretending it never happened.
Coward.
He glanced down at his hands — they were shaking slightly.
He clenched them into fists.
Never again ,he told himself.
Never that close.
Never that vulnerable.
But deep down, he already knew...
It was a lie.
