Every Beginning is hard

"Wake up, Y/N, or we'll be late!" someone whispered in her dreams. She groaned and turned over. Suddenly, something hit her head, and she sat up straight in bed. Next to her lay the pillow Lian had just thrown at her. Rubbing her eyes sleepily, she yawned.

"Can't I sleep for just five more minutes?"
Lian crossed her arms. "If you want to be late on your first day—sure. But you've got 15 minutes to be in the dining hall. Hurry up!"

When she heard Lian leave the room and close the door, Y/N glanced at the clock and realized she really didn't have much time. She jumped out of bed and quickly pulled on the school uniform hanging in her wardrobe. Looking in the mirror on her right, she gasped—her hair was sticking out everywhere, and she looked like a zombie.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the window. A large bird holding a suitcase in its claws perched there. When Y/N opened the window, the bird dropped the suitcase at her feet and flew off. Surprised, she opened it and found a small note on top:

**\[Hi Y/N, I just realized you probably don't have any toiletries with you, so I sent you everything I could think of. Hope it's enough. Best wishes, Singsuk.]**

Overjoyed, she found a hairbrush, shampoo, shower gel, hair ties, and more inside. She even spotted concealer and mascara. She quickly brushed her hair, brushed her teeth in the girls' bathroom, and finished with a touch of makeup. At least now she didn't look like a mess—she actually looked a little prepared for her first day of school.

A glance at the clock told her she had only two minutes left. She ran down the hall toward the dining room. It wasn't hard to find, since everyone else was heading there too. The hall held a large buffet and many tables. She grabbed a fruit salad with yogurt and a tea, and scanned the room for Lian until she finally saw her. Lian waved her over to a table already occupied by two others. Y/N sat down hesitantly and began to eat slowly. These were Lian's friends, and she didn't want to intrude.

"Hi, I'm Mi-na. Who are you?" the girl beside her asked. She had long red hair and large green eyes.

"I'm Y/N."

The boy next to Mi-na looked at her too. "I'm Song Kang, by the way. Are you Lian's new roommate?"

"Yes."

"Cool. I thought she'd be alone forever."

"Hey!" Lian playfully punched him on the shoulder. Song Kang had medium-length black hair, and—like all the other male vampires so far—he was very good-looking.

Thankfully, the rest of breakfast went smoothly. They chatted about school, projects, and music. Y/N actually enjoyed talking to them—they were both attentive and kind.

When the bell rang and they all got up for class, Y/N saw Chan making his way through the crowd toward her.

"Good morning. How was your first night at the academy?" he asked with a smile.

"Pretty good, thanks." She decided not to tell him about accidentally entering the wrong dorm.

"I'm glad to hear it. I'll take you to the headmistress now and then to your first class."
She nodded and quietly followed him through the corridors. They finally stopped in front of a large double door.

"I'll wait here, don't worry," Chan said, giving her an encouraging wink. Y/N stepped inside. A woman directed her to another door on the right, saying the headmistress was already expecting her.

Headmistress Lee greeted her warmly, asked a few questions, gave her a schedule, and sent her back to Chan. Y/N hoped she made a good first impression—Lee had been very kind.

When Chan saw her schedule, he let out a cheerful laugh.
"We have math together first period." Y/N was glad to have class with him—at least someone could help her find her way.

"After that, you've got Flight Arts, and I've got History. We'll see each other again at lunch, but you'll be fine."

"Thanks again—for everything." He was truly kind, especially to the new girl.

"No problem. Come on, let's go now. Otherwise, we'll be even later. Not that math is my favorite subject."
She laughed, and Chan joined in.

Y/N was glad she had come here. For the first time in a while, she felt happy—and not so alone.
