Chan led Y/n through the huge entrance hall to the girls' dorms, stopping in front of a large oak door.
"This is your new room," he said. "The school year already started, so tomorrow might be a little awkward. But don't worry about it."
"Okay. And... thanks again for bringing me here."
"No problem," he said with a wink before walking off, whistling.
Y/n's heart was pounding as she slowly pressed down the door handle and stepped inside. The room was split in two. Each side had a big canopy bed with dark red blankets and pillows, a bookshelf, a desk, and a wardrobe. Everything was made of dark wood and looked kind of old-fashioned. There weren't any lamps or electricity—just candles flickering on the walls. The three large windows were covered by heavy, dark curtains.
Y/n's side was still empty, but the other one was already filled with random decorations and personal stuff. The only thing missing: her roommate.
Suddenly, a loud whoosh startled her. A bat flew in through the open window. Y/n let out a small scream as it morphed into a girl with long black dreadlocks and almond-shaped dark eyes. She wore a black skirt and blouse with the school's emblem on it.
"Hi! I'm Lian. Who are you? Where are you from? And why are you only arriving now? The school year already started!" Lian fired off her questions like a machine gun.
"Uh, I'm Y/n," she answered quickly. "I used to live in the human world, so you kinda scared me just now. And I only found out about vampires a few days ago, so... yeah. That's why I'm late."
Lian gave her a curious look, then broke into a big smile and hugged her tight.
"That's so cool! And I finally have a roommate!"
Y/n returned the hug a little awkwardly but couldn't help smiling. Just then, she realized she really needed the bathroom.
"Lian?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you show me where the bathrooms are?"
"Sure thing," Lian giggled and led her out.
After Y/n returned and opened their room door again, she froze. Standing there wasn't Lian—but a tall boy with neon blue hair. He was so insanely attractive, she worried for a second that she might drool.
"What are you doing here? This is the boys' dorm, in case you haven't noticed. Unless you're blind," he snapped.
Y/n could feel her face turn red. Hot but arrogant. Great. What a jerk.
"Uh... sorry. I'm new and got lost."
He raised an eyebrow. "Even if that's true, watch yourself next time, got it?"
Before she could reply, he slammed the door shut. She flinched.
Only then did she realize it wasn't that big a deal. That could've happened to anyone. Still annoyed, she stomped off in the right direction this time and finally made it to her actual room.
Lian was already asleep, so Y/n quickly slipped into bed and closed her eyes. But that boy with the blue hair wouldn't leave her mind.
She groaned and smacked her forehead gently. Why was she thinking about that idiot right now?
Unable to sleep, she walked over to the window and opened it. The full moon shone brightly in the sky, and the cool night breeze gently played with her hair. She stared at the stars and whispered,
"I hope I won't disappoint you, Mom and Dad."
Then she took a deep breath, closed the window, and climbed back into bed. She finally drifted off—though the neon-haired boy was still haunting her dreams.
