Seeing the results, she could feel her world spinning. No way she could be second. Not after all the sleepless nights, nonstop work and effort she had poured to maintain her scholarship. She sprinted amongst the crowd to the department head's office to know what had happened, because she felt like the results had been tampered with. The door to the office room was ajar and she let herself in. She saw him looking at the results, and something about the air of victory around him and the smug look on his face made Ara feel cold.
"Sir, I would like to see my papers. I feel like there were problems in the grading or the result. I cant be second." A humble request, atleast as humble as she could be.
"Oh,Ara... What a surprise. Couldn't ace when it counts, could you? And now you demand there's a fault in the grading?", he said, slyness sparkling in his eyes. "Though I guess there might be some problems with really easy solutions. But first, sit down, have a few drinks with this old man. I've missed conversing with you so terribly."
She did not move.
"Sir, my life depends on this. I request for you to take this seriously."
She watched as he got up, pushing his chair back with a screeching sound.
"I have a nice proposition for you. It's a win-win for the both of us."
Her head was banging and her body begged to run out of the room, of the confines she had gotten herself into. She knew what was going to happen, it always was the same. Her mother's word offered her composure and she replied as boldly as her trembling voice could muster,
"Please say."
He smirked and walked towards her. She watched as he crossed her and closed the door behind her.
"I'm giving you a chance to be honoured by me." He spoke as he walked back to her. "I've always had my eyes on you"
She felt like prey in a lion's den.He tried to run his hands through her hair, but Ara stepped back.
"Please don't try to touch me. I will have to complain against you." The tiredness was creeping in and she couldn't fight it hard enough. He grabbed her hair by the fist and gave it a tug.
"Silly girl! Who will believe a nobody like you. Stay shut and enjoy what I give you",he spat out, and Ara felt regret at ever believing him swarming in her.
She forgot to struggle against his grip, engulfed entirety by disgust, regret and tiredness. She wanted to wish he would come and save her, but that was impossible. So she just closed her eyes and wished for everything that awaited her to end. He cupped her face while still fisting her hair in his other hand. She could feel his alcoholic breath and felt her insides were about to come out.
Suddenly, she heard the lock snap and the door banging against the wall.
