Collapsing floors, shattered windows and the stench of mold everywhere. I fucking hate this place.. But being here is necessary, according to King Ormis. Gotta fight Eyes of Odd, due to both our factions having gotten new members. I joined the Rebules, so I'm our new member, but I have no clue who I'm meant to be fighting, and if their even close to my age.
Ahead of me, Masik is talking to Amit, discussing what to do if either of us get injured or hurt the other member. I hear their name briefly, Malacu. I don't know why it's important that I don't hurt them. Isn't that the point? Hurt them as much as I can?
Whatever.
We round a corner and are met with the "arena". If that's even what you can call it. It's a fenced off part of the building with holes in the ground so people can drop to different floors during the fight. Across the arena is Eyes of Odd. Actually, it's only the three members we have to fight. Fraiek, Tyas, and Malacu. Fraiek is sitting on the ground, his legs curled to his chest, Tyas is standing like the statue he is at times, and Malacu is off to the side, Leaning against a pillar, holding a large, intricately carved spear, and staring right at me.
They're weirdly attractive, in a way that makes me want to shatter their nose and watch their blood drip down their face. Deep blue hair, vibrant green eyes, and tan skin. Petruding from their head is a set of horns, and from their back wings, and from their tailbone, a tail. They tilt their head and start to grin. Their teeth are like a sharks and it makes me recoil slightly, even though their nowhere near me.
the speaker system crackles to life, and Ormis's voice comes over, catching me and Malacu off guard. Mostly because I haven't fought here before, and Malacu looks like they've never been in one of the fights.
"Hello, contestants, and thank you for your involitary participation. Roll call is necessary, but before that, this will be the order. First off, Masik and my lovely bitch of a son, Fraiek;" He says, but it's clear he doesn't actually find Fraiek lovely, and it's clear in his tone, "than we have Amit and Tyas, and finally, Wylie and Malacu! Now for roll call! Actually, I can see you're all here. In five minutes, the first duel will begin!"
As soon as he finishes talking, Malacu walks over to Fraiek, and I'm worried they're going to attack him. Instead they just sit, grabbing his hand and playing around with it. That gets a small smile from Fraiek. I get lost watching them, and before I know it, the alarm goes off, indicating it's time for the duel

I don't want to be here. Let me go home. It's loud, it smells horrible, and I know I'll barely be able to walk after this. But nonetheless, I enter the arena. Masik is leaning against the fence, a lazy smile on his face. He knows I won't last long. I never do. He'll win. I grab my gun right as the actual fight starts.
Before Masik can touch me, I rush towards one of the holes in the ground, dropping down two floors and run. It's dark, but that doesn't matter. I just need to make space between us.
Soon enough, I find somewhere I can stop, trying to get my breathing under control. He will find me, that doesn't matter. I can't keep hiding this whole time. I just want at least some time before he finds me.
Behind me, I hear him getting closer, the sound of metal dragging against concrete giving him away. He rounds the corner and spots me. He does at least let me get one shot in before he grabs my throat and shoves me against the wall. His hold isn't enough to stop my breathing, just Enough to make me scared to move.
Moments later, he drops me. I guess he forgot his knife today. Good. I won't be electrocuted. That hurts. Just trust me. It doesn't stop him from attacking though. I feel his foot connect with my ribs, causing me to gasp. He grabs my hair again and drags me back up, his fist connecting with my neck a few moments later. It doesn't break anything, but it hurts.
"Fuck- I yield, Masik. Stop," I moan out, and he immediately let's go, his hands dropping to my waist, now helping me stay standing. He doesn't apologize right away, just holds me as I try to catch my breath.
"Did I break anything, love?" He asks gently, his hand moving up slightly to press my ribs, which hurt but aren't broken.. He never hits me hard enough during these to actually break anything.
"No. And don't call me love. We aren't dating, we fucked once"
"Yeah, but you enjoyed it"
"Shut up"
He's right, I did enjoy it. He finally let's go and takes a few steps back. His hairs grown slightly longer since I last saw him, and his eyes are more tired. He looks like a dad.
After a moment of silence, I sigh and sit down again. The stench gets worse the deeper into this building you go. I hate it. I hate it so much. Masik seems to take note of my expression and sits close to me. He smells like old wine. It's annoying. It's hot. Before I can stop myself, I let my head fall onto his shoulder. That gets a small laugh from him as he wraps his arms around my shoulder.
We sit there in silence for what I feel like is ten minutes before the alarm signaling the end goes off, and he stands. We make our way up, not talking more than necessary. As we surface, I notice Malacu has started to get sleepy. I smile and walk over, nudging their shoulder
"Oh. Hey Fraiek. If we win, can we get Boba?" They ask, their voice softer than usual.
"If we win, I'll consider it"
