Chapter 28: Arguments

Start from the beginning

Freen swallowed hard, guilt washing over her. She had been so caught up in the demands of her career that she had forgotten to nurture the most important thing in her life—her family. She reached out, placing a hand on Becky’s arm gently.

“I’m so sorry, Becky. I didn’t realize how much I’ve been neglecting you. I’ve been so focused on work, thinking that providing for you and the girls would be enough. But it’s not. It’ll never be enough if I’m not here.”

Becky looked at her with a mix of sadness and longing. “I don’t need you to be perfect, Freen. I just need you to show up. I need to feel like we’re a team again. I miss that.”

Freen’s eyes filled with tears. “I promise you, Becky. I promise I’ll do better. I’ll find a way to balance everything. I’ll be here for you, for our family. You’re not alone in this.”

Becky nodded, wiping away a stray tear. “I just want to feel like we’re in this together. I want to feel like we’re building a life together, not just existing in the same house.”

Freen leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to Becky’s forehead. “I hear you. And I’m going to fix this, okay? We’ll figure it out.”

Becky smiled softly, the tension in her shoulders beginning to ease. “I love you, Freen.”

Freen smiled back, her heart swelling with emotion. “I love you too, baby.”

And in that moment, the weight of their argument lifted. They knew that it wouldn’t be easy, that they would still face challenges ahead, but as long as they were together—truly together—they could make it through anything.

The night had turned quiet after the tension in the kitchen. The weight of the argument still hung in the air, but there was a shift—a softening. Freen had promised to do better, to find a way to be present, and Becky believed her. At least, she wanted to.

But promises, as they both knew, required action.

Freen sat down beside Becky, who was still cradling Luna in her arms, her body tense, though the tears had stopped. The soft sound of Luna’s light breathing filled the silence. Freen placed her hand gently on Becky’s shoulder, her voice quieter than it had been during their argument.

“Becky... I know that I’ve been so wrapped up in work that I’ve made you feel like you’re carrying everything on your own. And I haven’t been fair to you. I can’t change the past, but I’m going to do everything I can to make things right.”

Becky didn’t answer immediately, her gaze fixed on their baby. Luna’s small face was relaxed in sleep, completely unaware of the heaviness that had settled between her parents.

Becky let out a soft sigh, glancing up at Freen. “I don’t need grand gestures, Freen. I just need to feel like I’m not invisible. Like I’m not taking care of everything on my own while you’re building an empire. I’m here, too. I matter.”

Freen nodded, her heart aching at the vulnerability in Becky’s voice. She had been so focused on everything else that she had forgotten the very thing that had made her feel complete—Becky.

“I’m sorry. You matter more than anything, Becky. You always have,” Freen said, her voice tight with emotion. “I’m going to prove it, starting now.”

Becky gave a small, bittersweet smile, turning her gaze back to Luna. “I want to believe that, I do. But actions speak louder than words.”

Freen took a deep breath, then did something she hadn’t done in weeks—she let go of the pressure she’d placed on herself. The pressure to be perfect, to always have it together. She shifted closer to Becky, gently brushing a strand of hair from her forehead.

“I’m going to take a week off,” Freen said suddenly, her words surprising even her. “I’m going to disconnect from the office. I’m going to focus on you. On our family.”

Becky looked at her, her eyes wide. “Wait, really?”

Freen nodded, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. “I need to. I need to be here. I need to be a better partner to you, to be there for our kids, and I can’t do that if I’m constantly working. So, I’m taking a break. Starting tomorrow.”

Becky was silent for a moment, her gaze shifting back to their newborn daughter. She could see it in Freen’s eyes—the sincerity, the exhaustion, but also the determination.

“I love you, Freen,” Becky said softly, her voice thick with emotion. “I really do. And I’m sorry for pushing you away tonight. I’ve been so angry, so frustrated, but I’ve been scared, too. Scared that if I keep putting everyone else first, I’ll lose myself. I didn’t know how to ask for help.”

Freen’s heart ached as she reached out to gently hold Becky’s hand. “You’ll never lose yourself, baby. You’re everything to me. And I’ll never let you go through this alone.”

The words seemed to settle in the air between them, a promise.

They sat together for a few more minutes in silence, the world outside their little bubble seeming so distant. In that moment, the future felt more certain, more hopeful. Freen had always been the one to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders, but tonight, she understood that she didn’t have to do it alone.

The Next Day

The morning light streamed through the curtains as Freen woke up, a rare moment of peace settling in her chest. She hadn’t had a full night’s sleep in weeks—months, really—but this morning, she felt different. Lighter. For the first time in a long time, she wasn’t rushing to make calls, or thinking about meetings. She was focused on what mattered most.

Becky was already awake, holding Luna in her arms, gazing down at their newborn daughter with a soft, tender smile. Freen watched them for a moment, her heart swelling with love.

“Morning,” Becky said quietly, glancing up at Freen. “You’re awake early.”

Freen smiled as she walked over, kneeling beside the bed to kiss Becky on the forehead. “Couldn’t sleep. But it’s a good thing. I want to spend the day with you two.”

Becky raised an eyebrow, her smile returning. “You really mean it? A whole day off?”

Freen nodded. “I’m not going anywhere today. Just us. We’ll figure it out together, okay?”

Becky’s smile grew wider, and she leaned forward to kiss Freen gently. “Okay. We’ll take this one step at a time.”

The three of them spent the morning in peaceful silence. They didn’t need to talk constantly. Just being together felt like enough.

Later that afternoon, Freen surprised Becky by suggesting a family outing. “How about we take Aya and Luna to the park? I’ll carry Luna, and you and Aya can walk together.”

Becky blinked, surprised by the idea. “Wait, really? You want to go to the park with me? With the kids?”

Freen grinned. “Yeah, I want to be there. I want to be present, not just in the office or in meetings. I want to make memories with you and our girls. I want to be there, no matter what.”

And just like that, Becky’s heart softened. It wasn’t a grand gesture. It wasn’t an elaborate plan. But it was everything she needed.

The afternoon was spent in blissful simplicity. Freen, for the first time in weeks, had let go of the weight of her career. The world didn’t stop spinning, but in those moments, it didn’t matter. What mattered was the family they were building together.

And for the first time in a long time, Freen felt like she had everything she needed.
