Chase
Me and Jax just got back from a little morning hockey practice.
It's really unofficial, we just go to the rink where Jax plays on a team in town and use the ice for some random drills and I work with him a bit.
"Since it's summer and all..." Jax starts to speak with a slight smirk on his face. "And you're gonna be home, you need to be practicing with me everyday."
I laugh as I start making us some sandwiches for lunch
He's talking about hockey.
Normally during the semester I don't have too much time to practice with Jax except for weekends and since he can't be chill about anything, that's obviously not enough for him.
This kid is freaking obsessed with hockey. I think that's the only thing ever on his mind.
Gotta give it to him though, he's fucking good.
He's only eleven but he's better than I was at thirteen.
"We'll see."
"So that means you agree right?" He says with a hopeful smile.
I finish making us some quick sandwiches and hand him a a plate. "Eat, dude."
"You can't ignore me." He takes the sandwich into his hands and looks down at it before taking a big bite. "I know where you live."

A couple hours before dinner I'm in the kitchen whenever Amelia and her dad walk in.
"What's for dinner?" Amelia says as she sits down at a bar stool at the counter.
"I was just about to ask your dad that," I say.
"I was just about to ask you that," Charlie replies.
"Uhh," I turn around and call out to my dad who's playing with Hazel in the living room. "Dad did we have anything planned for dinner?"
"No, I was thinking we could just order takeout, we really need to go grocery shopping."
"Pizza!" Jax shouts from the living room.
I smile a little and turn my head to Charlie. "Is that okay with you guys?"
"Good with me," Amelia says and Charlie nods his head.
I get my phone out to order.
I scroll over to get two large pepperoni pizzas, one with pineapple and spinach on it for Ameila, the other for my dad, a large supreme pizza for me and Charlie and then a small cheese pizza for Jax.
"You made sure to get our supreme?" Charlie asks and I nod my head.
"That's my boy," he says as he leaves the kitchen and I laugh a little.
"What'd all you get?" Amelia asks.
I read off the order before I place the order and she hesitates.
"Maybe get a small Alfredo pizza too."
I scrunch my brows a little in confusion.
Amelia hates Alfredo pizza.
Why would she want a—oh. She wants to get it for Cole.
"Cole left a bit ago, I doubt he's gonna be back for dinner. If he is then he can eat some of dad's, he likes normal pepperoni too."
I can tell her face drops a little.
"You don't think he's gonna be back?"
"Oh my hell Amelia, just ask for his hand in marriage already."
She blushes and looks at me defensively.
"It's not even like that I—"
"If you're trying to be discrete about how bad you've got it for him, you're failing miserably," I laugh and she just rolls her eyes.
She's quiet for a second and I can tell she wants to say something.
She bites the side of her cheek before asking, "where'd he go?"
He told me he went to Madeline's.
"Uh Braden's I think," I mumble and look back down at my phone to place the order.
I don't have the heart to tell her he went to Madeline's, she really doesn't like her.
Can't blame her though, that girl is so sneaky.
Literally everything she says is so backhanded. I don't know how Cole doesn't see it.
She nods her head and I order the pizza.
Watching her try to hide her disappointed face because Cole probably isn't gonna be at dinner has me wracking my brain to think or something to say to get her mind off it.
I quickly remember that she has a package that accidentally got delivered here.
"Oh hey," I say quickly and turn around to grab the small package on the counter.
"This was accident delivered here earlier this afternoon," I say as I hand it to her.
The mailman has been getting our houses mixed up since we started living here.
She scrunches her brows a little. "I don't even remember what I ordered," she says as she begins to rip open the package.
"Ohh," she drags out. "It's my new diar—journal," she mumbles over the word 'diary' and says journal instead and I'm wondering why.
"You go through a lot of those," I say quietly. "The last one got delivered here on accident too and that was only like a month ago."
"What can I say dude, got such an interesting and cool and exciting life, have to document it all," she says sarcastically and laughs a little.
Amelia's always been a really colorful person. She's always had a bunch of odd (in a good way) type of hobbies.
I remember her being as young as 11 and she would write down quotes from books she read to put on her wall.
Like, every book.
But the past couple of years she's really started to keep track of like, everything.
She's really sentimental and keeps every single kind of memory.
I've never seen that girl ever even throw away a movie ticket.
I can tell from her sarcastic response that she doesn't really wanna talk about it, so I don't pry.
Before I have the chance to say anything else, Jax starts showing me something on his phone—stuff about one of his favorite players who's a prospect for the NHL draft.
After a while, I hear the doorbell ring and then promptly Jax shouting that the pizza is here.
He jumps off the couch and as he turns a corner to go answer the door, he slips because of his socks and falls onto the floor.
He just pops up like nothing happened and I start to laugh until my stomach hurts.
He walks up with the boxes of pizza and we all sit around the table.
Amelia goes to grab the top box. "Paws off my pizza," Jax says jokingly.
"No one wants your plain cheese pizza," she says and softly pushes his head.
