Hi, me again. Loving this nice cute tender moment. They're just like siblings! Yay!
But this is my story, remember? I'm the one telling it. This isn't about Jimmy or Gem, this is about me. My story.
So, to understand a bit more about me we need to go back a bit. You need to understand something about Martyn. Martyn was always big into mythology and the gods. He'd learned stories of them in his years on the seas. Myths behind the creatures he slayed. When he met Jimmy, he shared the stories. He planted myths and legends into Jimmy's head and taught him of the gods.
Now, here's what happened. All this talk with Gem about the gorgeous siren got Jimmy thinking. Jimmy's thinking never ends well, especially when he's restless. That night, he thought about the lover he'd lost. Was he really destined to be lonely just because his true love died? For some reason, his brain decided that no, that wasn't fair. So, he prayed. And with the praying came the writing. He prayed to the goddess of love, praying that he could find someone to fill the hole in his heart that the blacksmith had left. He wrote a love letter and stuck it in a bottle. While Gem was asleep, Jimmy snuck to the ports and threw the bottle into the ocean. He believed that the goddess of love would guide it to someone who could love him once more.
What an idiot.
You think I'm being harsh for calling him that? Okay, let me tell you a little mini story.
Once upon a time, bottles on the sea were left to float forever and eventually be swallowed by the waves and sunken to the sandy sea floor. To float aimlessly and reach some random shore and be picked up by curious beachcombers. That's changed now.
After being hunted to near extinction due to deadly voices, sirens took up a new side gig. They became the deliverers of message bottles. A horrible downgrade, believe me I know. From alluring death machines to postmen! How exciting. Yay. wow. They still sang, but only when they had to.
If a siren found a message, they were to read it and deliver it to someone across the sea. They couldn't rest until the bottle was delivered to the correct person. Usually the correct person could be anyone. Most message bottles were just for fun. Kids throwing them into the ocean so someone somewhere would find them. That was easy. A siren could just spit the bottle out on shore anywhere.
Jimmy, having no idea of this, wrote his letter to someone who would be his true love. Someone who would have the same bright eyes and fiery personality as his blacksmith. Someone who would cherish him.
You may be thinking "Aww how sweet and romantic!"
No.
Not sweet and romantic.
Impossible.
How the heck is a siren supposed to deliver a message to a metaphorical person who is the perfect match for a person they don't even know?!
That's all that was running through my head when I picked up that stupid bottle.
Oh yeah, did I mention I'm a Siren?
Isn't this fun? I love keeping you in the dark.
