He snaps, not even bothering to look at me. I look up to the ceiling of the grand elevator and silently decide that I should make the most of this.
"Not my business, I just love to do charity work."
His head snaps up to look at me, and I can feel his eyes judgingly travel up and down. His lips curl into a deeper scowl.
"Do you ever stop talking?"
'He makes this way too easy, it's like talking to Chloe.'
"Only when the world stops needing my brilliance. Charity, remember?"
He turns away abruptly and I shoot him a mischievous little grin just as the elevator doors open. The doors slide open and the familiar stranger is practically speeding walking out of the elevator into the foyer. I'm in no hurry to chase after him, but the blonde doesn't make it far from me because he moves to stand next to a familiar redhead.
'The universe has the sickest sense of humor.'
I catch Poppy's eyes and I can physically see her quell the fire behind them, fixing me a tight grin. Her and evil Adrien are standing in a larger group than normal. I can barely spot Luka, Juleka, and Caleb's heads peeking over the back of the plush sofa on the other side of the lobby from Poppy.
With my luck I shouldn't be surprised that Mr. Agreste, the Gorilla, and some random blonde lady are standing with my foster parents.
I take a deep breath, speeding up my nonchalant stroll.
"Nice of you to make it y/n."
"I'm sorry Poppy, I didn't want to leave the hotel room a mess."
She giggles like it's the funniest thing in the world.
"That's for the room service workers to deal with. Try to be on time next time."
The blond lady next to her sighs fondly.
"It's more than alright, even my Felix was running late though I doubt he was cleaning the room."
"Y/n this is Amélie Fathom, and I see you have met her son Felix Fathom."
Amélie held out her hand to me first.
"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Fathom, you are Adrien's aunt I'm assuming."
"You have a smart one here, Poppy."
"Oh please, we look like a spitting image of them."
Of course knock off Adrien, Felix I guess, had to butt in. If he stuck his nose up at me any further he'd be able to smell the paint on the ceiling of the Ritz. But professional y/n prevailed.
"Well I have to agree with him, I thought he was Adrien at first."
"I'm surprised he didn't pretend to be him."
Mr. Agreste's voice cut through the conversation like a knife, cold and void of light. Poppy forces an eased chuckle, while Amélie actually does laugh.
"He is always up to something, you'll have to ignore his prickliness."
"Speaking of Adrien, we have a bit of a surprise."
I am unable to school the look on my face before I turn to Mr. Agreste, sending him a raised eyebrow. To which he smiles widely, very concerning I will add. Poppy turns to the sofas behind her.
"Caleb, have you and our friends join us."
I hold back the eye roll at 'our' friends. But I quickly shut my mouth as a head of blonde hair peaks over the sofa that I missed originally. Adrien's grin could practically blind you if you look too long, and still, I watch him cross the threshold to me.
