"WHY CAN'T YOU BE NORMAL FOR ONCE!", the black haired woman screamed hysterically as she slapped her daughter across the face.
The daughter's face, 15 years old, has a red handprint by now. But the girl didn't react, letting her mother do whatever she's doing.
"Answer me, you useless piece of shit!" But Lyla still didn't answer. She just stared blankly, looking at her mother's soul, which the mother didn't like at all, so she grabbed an empty wine bottle and slammed it on Lyla's head.

...

Lyla wakes up in her room. It's dark, but the moon was shining through the window. A full moon. Lyla sits up, but immediately flinches and teaches her head. Bandages. That must have been Maximilian, her butler.
Her mother would never treat her injuries. No.  Despite the pain, Lyla gets up. At least the pain gives her a feeling, something she did have in a long time. She walks through her pretty large room to the balcony.

Lyla doesn't beat around the bush, her family is rich, or rather, her father was before he died. The entire inheritance went to her mother, who now runs his company. He was head over heels in love with her. So in love that he put her above his children. If he only knew she was cheating on him with another man, who's now Lyla's stepfather, he would have been devastated. Well, he also would've been devastated if he had known that his eldest son had taken his own life. Well, thinking of it, maybe it's a good thing her father died. It spared him a lot of suffering.

Lyla steps onto the balcony, into the silence. Everything was quiet, too quiet. Lyla hates it when it was too quiet, it only makes her thoughts louder. She looks up at the moon, which seems unusually blue.  Apparently there is such a thing, at least that's what she read somewhere. After a few minutes, she looked down. The balcony of her house was on the third floor. Would she die if she jumped down? Just a small jump and—

"Miss Lyla, what are you doing? You could catch a cold."
Maximilian's voice echoed through Lyla's room, breaking the silence and her thoughts.

"...couldn't sleep," Lyla replied in a monotone voice. Why was he still awake? Normally, he would have been asleep long ago.
The butler sighed as he stepped closer into the room. "Miss, that's not possible. You need to rest, you have a dangerous head wound and could faint at any moment."
Lyla didn't respond and looked back at the moon. She could already guess what would happen. He would go to her on the balcony and ask if everything was okay, not just physically. Lyla wouldn't respond.  He would offer her a cup of tea, but she would reject and simply go back to bed.
"...would you like a cup of tea?"
Oh. This time he skipped two steps. He's learning.
"No," Lyla replied before turning and walking to the bed. At least she wanted to stick to her script. Maximilian seemed satisfied. At least Lyla thinks that since he quickly wished her a goodnight and left her room. As usual. Lyla knew he wasn't being sincere. Otherwise, he wouldn't have left so quickly. Otherwise, he would have recognized the emptiness inside her. Or maybe she's just imagining it all?

...

The next day, Lyla skipped school, as usual. Instead, she went skating in the park. Skating was the only thing that gave her a sense of freedom left. Even if it was only a small spark, Lyla clung to it tightly. Loud music blared through her headphones. They helped her shut out the rest of the world. She didn't belong there anyway.  The park was empty, so Lyla was free to let off steam. She'd already learned most of the tricks, but she preferred just skating. Feeling the wind in her hair and clearing her mind.
But suddenly her phone rang. It was her mother. Lyla didn't answer it, not having the energy. A few seconds later, however, she received a text from her mother.

Mom
You useless piece of shit! Why the hell aren't you at school!? This is going to be big trouble!

Lyla sighed. Great.

...

Arriving home, Lyla immediately received a slap from her mother. What a warm welcome.

"Why the hell weren't you in school?! Do you know what that does to my reputation?!" Lyla's mother screamed hysterically again. Once again, it was all about her.
"What do you think people will say about me??? That I'm too incompetent to raise a useless brat like you!" Another slap followed. Lyla, as usual, didn't react. She was fed up.

Lyla could hear Maximilian walking out with her younger brother. Yes, she had another younger brother, Lio. He was a tender 6 years old and never had the pleasure of meeting his hysterical mother. In short: He was the favorite. Lyla's mother never lost a bad word about him, quite the opposite. Even if he spent millions of her fortune, she would just smile, shake her head and say he was still a child.  She was a mother to him. Which is why Maximilian also went out with Lio. To hide the truth.

After the two of them were out, Lyla's mother didn't waste another second and punched Lyla in the stomach. Lyla immediately fell to her knees and clutched her stomach tightly.

"Can't you do something right for once in your life?! Just look at Lio! Only 6 and far better than you!" A kick to the ribs followed.
"How could I have given birth to something like that?!" Another kick.

Lyla was in pain, but her mother's words didn't hurt her. She was used to them. To the sharp, hard, and cold words of her wonderful mother.

"You're just like Kian! A worthless thing that shouldn't exist anymore!"

Lyla's blood ran cold... Kian...?

Lyla's mother raises her arm for another strike, but this time her wrist was held. By Lyla. Lyla stared at her mother.  Her gaze was a mixture of anger, emptiness, sadness, and hatred. Abysmal hatred. No one had ever seen Lyla like that.

"Take it back." Lyla's voice was monotone, but her grip on her mother's wrist tightened.
"W-what?"
"I said, TAKE IT BACK! DON'T YOU DARE CALL KIAN WORTHLESS OR EVEN TAKE HIS NAME IN YOUR DIRTY MOUTH!" Lyla screamed, just as she had been. The mention of her dead brother triggered something in her.

Her mother was surprised, no, shocked. But instead of apologizing or anything like that, her eyes narrowed and she said, "I'm only telling the truth."

"..."

Lyla looked at her mother with wide eyes. That's it. Every little spark of hope her mother had vanished in that moment. Lyla could feel something inside her breaking.  Something that had been threatening to break for a long time and had finally done so. Now Lyla felt nothing but emptiness inside her.

Her grip weakened, and after a few seconds, she let go of her mother's wrist completely. She didn't even look her in the eye. Instead, she simply turned and left.

"You-! Stay where you are! I'm not done with you yet!"

She reached for Lyla, but Lyla...dodged her. This confused her mother and gave Lyla time to go to her room and lock the door.

Lyla grabbed her backpack and packed only the essentials: a sleeping bag, a sweater and pants, a lighter, a pocketknife, money, an old cell phone, a first-aid kit, pills, and her headphones. She also grabbed a rope that was hidden under her mattress. She pulled on a jacket and threw the bag onto her shoulders. Her gaze wandered to her sword. She also practices swordplay and is quite good at it.  The medals and trophies speak for themselves. But she couldn't take it with her. It would have been too conspicuous. Instead, she grabbed her skateboard, she couldn't live without it.
Equipped with the gear, Lyla walked to her balcony. She tied the rope around the balcony railing and climbed down.
If you haven't realized it yet, Lyla is running away from home.
