Volume 1: The Great Beginning

Start from the beginning

Truly, this stretch of road was no longer eagerly traveled, and as such, the obvious need to fill up on fuel and provisions beforehand was apparent if he didn't wish to have any serious delays on the long, and most certainly, unforgivable stretch ahead.

Pulling into the station, he lined the car up with one of the many vacant and dated looking fuel pumps. With the car shut off, he opened the door, and got to his feet. Immediately, the need to stretch his limbs overtook his other desires, and after doing so, he approached the pump he was parked at, and took his wallet out.

As part of this opportunity he had been given an expense card to use for essentials on his way to his destination. That of course included fuel, food, and other necessities, like lodging.

—Only that, with the time frame he had to work in, sleep wasn't something he could get more than a few hours of in anyway. He didn't have time to check-in to a hotel or anything similar.

Regardless, approaching the pump, he went to go swipe this card to purchase fuel, yet as he did—

YN: No card slot, huh?

The pumps were even more dated than they had first appeared.

It was at the same time, he turned his gaze down towards the handle used to work the pump, and noticed a label right above it that simply read: "PAY INSIDE FIRST."

With a grunt, YN figured he'd have to go inside anyway, so this wasn't that big of an inconvenience. Still, with the sun down, there is a definite chill in the air. Feeling underdressed for it, YN opened the back hatch of his car, —what was technically its third door, and grabbed his jacket.

In it, reflexively, YN patted his pockets to make sure he had everything before he went inside.

Wallet, keys, phone—

Having not used it since he had started out early that same day, a small rush of panic shot down his spine at his phone not being in its usual spot, but as soon as he patted his jacket pocket, he found it.

In the half-second this fear-and-relief had slingshot his psyche, he pulled the phone out, and attempted to at least check what time it was.

YN: Ah, dead.

Yet, as he saw the lone symbol on his phone that showed a cord going into its base and nothing else, it struck him he had neglected to bring just that; a charger for his phone.

YN: I mean, I kinda need a functioning phone...

Set to see if maybe he could also get his hands on a new one from inside the conjoined convenience store this fuel station had, YN walked up to the dimly lit glass windows, and peered inside.

YN: I think it's open? I don't see anyone inside though...

Yet, as he stepped in front of the double doors, they both automatically slid open, and the very generic "DEE-DOO" chime one usually hears when entering into a shop sounded out across the aisle of the empty store.

Without so much as an acknowledgement to his presence here, he slowly shuffled into the store, and began going up and down the aisles to locate the thing's he'd need for the next leg of his journey.

While not a soul else was in here, the shelves were robustly stocked with items, and as such, it made it a challenge to narrow down where he needed to look for a phone charger of all things.

Combing through rows of junk food, surgary drinks, and even an area for toiletries and other personal hygiene products, this store it seemed couldn't decide if it was a miniature grocery store, a cheap souvenir shop.
