Chapter Twenty Four

The King's gaze remained steady "Yes"

I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest

"That means my mother... she was—"

"A royal" he finished for me "Your mother was not just any Celestial. She was the Princess of this realm. The rightful heir to this throne"

A sharp silence filled the air

My mother... a princess?

"No" I breathed, shaking my head "That can't be true. She... she never told anyone—"

"Because she never wanted anyone to carry the burden she did" the King said, his voice gentler now "She ran away from this world long before you were born, seeking something beyond the purity of the Celestials. She fell to Earth... where your father found her... and they fall in love"

My father

"She left everything?" I whispered, my voice trembling "for love?"

The King nodded, and in that moment, something in his expression softened, an old pain buried deep in those glowing white eyes

"She loved your father beyond measure" he said "Enough to forsake her home, her destiny, and even her power"

A lump formed in my throat

"She was happy" I murmured

"Yes"

And then...

"Until the Devil King killed her for me"

The room darkened

The moment the words left my lips, the celestial light seemed to waver, like a ripple in a still pond

The King's expression darkened

"We tried to stop him" he said, his voice carrying an edge of sorrow "But the Devil King's power is ancient. By the time we could act... it was too late"

Pain clawed at my chest

"He stole everything from me" I said, my hands shaking at my sides "And I will kill him"

A heavy silence followed

The King studied me, his gaze unreadable. Then, slowly, he spoke "Be careful, Y/N"

I stiffened

"The Devil King is not an opponent you can simply defeat. Killing him will come at a cost"

I clenched my fists "I don't care"

"You should" he warned "Because if you try to strike him down with only your devil's power, you will fail like the Prince who tried long ago"

I exhaled sharply "Then I'll use something stronger"

For the first time, his expression wavered

"You mean... your Celestial power?"

"Yes"

A long pause

"You do not understand what you are saying"

"Then help me understand" I demanded

The King leaned forward slightly, his glowing eyes searching mine

"You are not just Celestial Royalty, Y/N. You are also the Devil's Princess"

The words sent a cold shiver down my spine

"Your body holds both the light of the Celestial Realm and the darkness of the Devil World. If you awake your Celestial powers, and mix both darkness and pure light together, it can be dangerous... if you can't control them, they will consume you"
