"Sometimes in our anger, we are blind towards our actions. You need to remember that madam sir isn't just your senior - but also your friend. You know Karishma that madam sir will never express that you hurt her. She always prioritizes everyone else. Remember Karishma - that is who you hurt. "
She paused letting the words sink in as she continued again. "If you truly repent over your actions, you need to change. But remember Madam sir might not be easy to forgive this time."
Ks stopped her punishment with Pushpa Ji's gesture. She knelt in front of her, her eyes speaking volumes of the guilt that she carried.
"Amma, I understood what you said. I promise Amma, I'll ask for forgiveness from madam Sir even if it takes my entire life."
Pushpa Ji caressed her face, gently kissing her forehead as she smiled at her.
"Chalo complete the files without making Madam Sir angrier."
Ks nodded, smiling at her mother as she settled back to continue her work.
***************
Haseena removed her cap, muttering a silent groan as she collapsed on to the sofa. She bridged the edge of her nose, constantly massaging her temples. Her mind blew up, the past hammering in her heart. Ks's accusations- the questioning of her integrity... Everything flashed across her mind snapping at a lighting pace. Haseena stared blanky at the wall ahead, tears streaking her face.
She lifted her weary head as she felt her mother's presence. Wordlessly Haseena snuggled into her chest, craving for her warmth.
"Hasu beta.... what happened?"
"I'm tired Ammi....of everything......"
Her tears fell dampening Ammi's dupatta. Ammi tightened her hold on Haseena, caressing her head in soft gentle strokes.
"Ammi how could KS do that to me?" She asked, her voice strained. " I thought that she was my best friend...."
Ammi winced sympathetically as Haseena continued sobbing. For the first time, she had no answers for her daughter. What could she even say to justify Ks's actions?
"Ammi.... I was ecstatic when KS forwarded her hand asking to be my friend. I thought that no matter the differences between us, she would stand beside me... Instead...she blamed me Ammi...s..she...accused me of being emotional staging her own death..." Haseena's crying had reached an uncontrollable intensity.
"Hasu ... you know how short-tempered Ks is.... she never thinks- she just acts ..."
"Haan Ammi who would know her better than me..." she said, a sarcastic tone as she closed her eyes blocking out the memories. "But that doesn't justify her actions Ammi..."
"I didn't say that Hasu... what I'm trying to say is that people are blind to their actions. They think before they act. It is too late when they realize the consequences of their actions but beta...." She said as she lifted Haseena's head.
"That doesn't mean that you have to punish yourself. Ks's actions were her own- not yours. Why are you blaming yourself for something you could never control?"
"Ammi I'm hurt because I thought KS was my friend and .... she doesn't even know that I'm hurt... not once did she say sorry Ammi..."
Ammi smiled patting her cheek. "Hasu....as soon as Ks realizes her faults, she will come running towards you. But beta.... are you ready to forgive her?"
Haseena lifted her head completely, wiping her tear-stained face as she glanced at her mother, devoid of expressions. "I don't know Ammi...." She said at last.
