How could she forgive and forget when it was her self-respect that was questioned? How could she forget the accusations made against her uniform threatening her entire existence? How could she forget Ks bold yet fake attempt to prove Haseena as emotionally misguidedly?

She stood up, punching the glass cover of her table. The glass cracked, slivers snaking around it with smithereens of blood. Haseena gazed at the glass, her own reflection broken in it as she lowered her bleeding hand. The glass and Haseena were the same. Broken beyond repair.

************

Ks had just returned from field duty when Haseena called her to her cabin. Ks stooped in her tracks, her heart pounding at Haseena's palpitating voice. She gulped, clenching her fists as she took timid steps towards the cabin. She glanced at Haseena, her heart racing a thousand miles. She went and greeted her, standing in front of Haseena with her hands behind her back.
For a moment neither of them spoke, the silence spreading throughout the cabin. Haseena glanced at Ks, her usual demeanor fading before her as her fingers creased the edges of a manila-colored file.

Ks stood to attention, her legs fumbling as her eyes settled on Haseena. She had seen Haseena's anger. Madam Sir had lashed out on her. Yet, this was something KS had never seen. Haseena's eyes had turned a darker shade, yet it spoke a fiery calmness. It looked as if the calm before the storm. Ks cracked her knuckles, digging her fingers deep into her palm as she withdrew her gaze away from Haseena's burning eyes.

"KS!!!" She yelled immediately causing KS to glance at Haseena, her body trembling before her thunderous voice.

"Didn't I tell you to complete these files by today?" Haseena asked as she got up, pointing to the stack of files on her desk.

Ks bit her lower lip, her teeth grazing the soft edge hard as she hid her tears.

"I need an answer KS" Haseena roared again.

"M... madam sir forgive me... I..."

Her attempts to justify her actions were cut short as she felt Haseena's penetrating gaze fixed on her.

"KS, I gave you a direct order to complete these files by today. You failed to do so disobedience my orders..." she said as she walked back to her chair, settling down comfortably.

She folded her hands in front, wincing silently as she brushed on her bruised knuckles. "I've always tolerated your action KS but not today... you will face the consequences of disobeying your senior. You will complete all these files before the end of today and you will be completing night duty for the next two days."

Ks stared at her, her eyes widening in shock. Haseena had never punished her for such small mistakes. KS burrowed her toe deep inside her socks as her fists clenched behind her back. She understood that Haseena was letting out her frustrations on her and Ks knew that there was nothing she could do. She sighed, resigning to her fate as a lingering question plagued her. Had Ks's actions broken Haseena? Had she caused that much grief to her madam sir?

Ks left picking up the stack of files, her fingers trembling to hold them. As she left, she glanced at Haseena expecting a simple eye lock. Yet, Haseena ignored her, keeping her eyes fixed on her mobile. Ks sighed as she rushed outside, piling the files messily on her desk, the tears threatening to spill.

Haseena tightened her grip on her pen, her eyes glancing slightly at Ks. She knew that her emotions had controlled her today. Everyone has a limit, Ks she voiced internally. You've crossed that limit. She whispered to herself, retracting her gaze as she settled to work, her perturbed mind overruling her.
