Never depend on people. People are always going to disappoint you. They will never remember all that you did for them but they will always remember all that you didn't do (myself included). People will never appreciate you. They only take you for granted.
The injustice of this was seething within me one night and I couldn't even sleep, thinking of the lack of appreciation. In the quiet of the night, I asked Allah Sub-hanahu wa ta'ala to fill that void in my heart. The next day after suhoor (this was during Ramadan), I received a message about how the noble Qur'an is a cure for everything-- what caught my interest was this: "You feel you are not appreciated? See Qur'an 76:22."With trembling hands, I sought this Ayah, verse no.22 of Surah Al-Insaan, and here's what I found: "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated."My eyes welled up at once, but these were tears of joy. I have found emotional fulfillment at last. You can't blame me for smiling the next time I recited in prayer "wa lam yakun lahu kufuvan ahad" -- "And there is no equivalent to him" (112:4). There is, indeed, no equivalent to Him. Nobody can ever be like Him. He is Al-Wadood, the most loving, Ash-Shakoor, the most appreciative. My beloved Master.
