“gon! you won't believe what happened--” you stood off to the side as leorio launched into an excited ramble, his hands gesturing wildly as he recounted everything you had done—how you seemed to command thunder itself, how you hovered above the ground while making it tremble beneath you, and how, as if that weren’t enough, you had pulled a sword straight from your own chest.
gon, ever the attentive listener, was trying his best to keep up, but his wide, dotted eyes and slightly open mouth betrayed his struggle. he glanced between leorio and you, clearly overwhelmed by the rapid-fire explanation.
"raiden y/n, can i talk to you for a second?" leorio's rambling came to an abrupt halt. all four of you turned toward netero, who was approaching with his usual expression.
"about what?" you asked, tilting your head slightly, your curiosity piqued. netero remained silent for a moment, his gaze shifting briefly toward gon, kurapika, and leorio. the three of them understood the unspoken signal and promptly took their leave.
"you certainly possess a powerful nen," he finally spoke once they were gone, his voice carrying a note of curiosity. standing side by side, both of you faced the fountain ahead, the sound of flowing water filling the quiet space between you.
"nen?" your brow slightly furrowed at the unfamiliar term. "what is this nen you speak of?"
netero's suspicions were confirmed at that moment. he had already taken note of the way you fought against illumi—how you displayed immense strength and ability without even a hint of nen, not even the most basic applications of its four principles. it made you an anomaly, an exception to the rules he had come to understand. yet, he had not yet arrived at the conclusion that you were something beyond human.
"i suppose you'll uncover the answer in due time," he said at last, choosing his words carefully. "your journey as a hunter will lead you to it." he paused, his expression unreadable as he weighed his next statement.
"would you mind if i speak my thoughts aloud? exactly as they come to me?" you tilted your head slightly, already sensing that there was more to this conversation than he was letting on. it was clear that he had been waiting for this moment, insisting on privacy for a reason.
"go ahead," you encouraged, arms loosely crossed as you turned your gaze toward him. "i'm curious to hear what’s on your mind."
netero remained silent for a long moment, letting the gentle trickling of the fountain fill the space between you. his usual playful demeanor had faded into something more thoughtful.
