I could hear the blood in my veins pulse, beating like drums as I woke up with a start. A stabbing feeling pierced my chest as I breathed in through my nose and cold air entered my lungs.

My eyes slowly peeked open, pain blossoming in my skull as pure white invaded my senses. I let out a choked groan as I tried to sit up. Nope. Never doing that again. My eyes soon adjusted to the light, allowing my vision to clear.

My breath stopped short at the scene, dread hitting me like a truck. My heart dropped and my throat tightened, as if I was being choked.

This is not where I fell asleep.

The world around me was a tapestry of white, with swirling snowflakes dancing around in the dim light of dawn. I was lying on a bed of soft snow, surrounded by sky-scraping trees that loomed like archaic guardians. Their branches were heavy with snow, and the air was thick with silence. That silence only being broken by the distant howl of the wind.

After sitting for a while and gathering a bit of strength, I sluggishly pushed myself upwards. I looked down and noticed two weird details. For the first, I was wearing a cloak intertwined with shimmering threads that sparkled like stars against the white backdrop. It felt weirdly warm against my skin, and as I wrapped it tighter around me, I noticed a strange symbol embroidered into the fabric---3 pairs of wings cradling a star.

And for the second detail? Wings.

I had wings.

Not just one pair either, but ones like the symbol embroidered into my cloak, 3 pairs of pure white wings that almost blended into the snow. One pair on my upper back, one in the middle, and one on my lower back. The ones in the middle were fairly large, stretching out, the complete wingspan reached about a foot past my arms.

The only reason I had even noticed was because of the strange weight holding me down when I tried to get up.

Moving on from my discoveries, somehow not questioning it, I realized I had no memory of how I got here, nor who had draped this cloak over my shoulders. Panic started to rise like bile in my throat as I scanned my surroundings. There was no sign of civilization, no familiar landmarks, just an endless expanse of snow and shadow.

Suddenly, a low rumble echoed through the trees, shook the ground and sent a shiver down my spine. Adrenaline coursed through my veins as the hairs on my neck stoop up. I turned around quickly, heart racing as I came face to face with a pair of glowing white eyes.

The figure stepped out of the trees and into the small clearing where I had woken up. My eyes widened at his elegant form. He had long white hair tied into a low ponytail, the strands almost shining as they reflected the sunlight. He had no pupils, but strange star symbols covered his pale but healthy looking skin. The symbols were adjacent to the sides of his mouth and there was one his forehead, slightly covered by his bangs. He was wearing a robe that draped over his tall figure, and as I was thinking 'how is this guy not cold', wings similar to mine unfurled from behind his back, making a whooshing sound.

"Be not afraid"

His voice thundered out, making me jump slightly, yet for some reason, his presence calmed me.

"Where-where am- what am I doing here-how did I get here?" I managed to stutter out, my voice cracking slightly.

"I am sorry to inform you, but you are currently dead."

His voice was elegant, a striking contrast to the words that came out of his mouth. 'What the hell does he mean "you're dead" I'm not dead! I'm standing right here!'

"I can assure you, you have passed. There is a meeting currently going on, deciding what to do with you. After all, you died too early."

'Well that explains the wings I guess.. Holy shit can this guy read my mind?! Wait is he even a guy?? Oh god have I been misgendering them this entire time?' My thoughts swirled through my mind. I lost focus and completely forgot about the figure in front of me and got lost in my worries. I was cut off my the voice booming out again.

"You amuse me mortal, and yes, I am able to hear your thoughts" the figure spoke.

My jaw dropped as I gaped like a fish at the angelic man-thing-i don't even know anymore.

"Sooo ummm who are you? And how did I die!? All I did was fall asleep.. was it [random name]? Hah! I knew it! That bitch..." I muttered the last few bits but the figure still heard. A deep chuckle sounded out through the clearing.

"No, it was not [random name], we are still trying to figure out what happened, which is weird, because usually we know as soon as someone dies. Also, I am in fact a male, and my name is Kaelan, I am your guardian angel."

"Oh-kay thenn... well what-what do you think is gonna happen to me?" I questioned, slightly stumbling with my words while trying to keep a brave face.

"Personally, since you died too soon, I'm assuming we'll have to revive you and send you to a different universe." He spoke calmly.

"So I can't just go back to my home? What abou-what about my family, my-my friends? I can't just leave them like that!" My voice raises slightly at the thought of my past.

"No, I apologize, but I did just get word back from my superiors and my guess was correct. You will be sent to a different universe."

I didn't say anything, the weight of his words weighing me down. I would never see my parents again. My sisters, brothers, [best friends name], none of them.

"Now, [your name] it is time to go but before you leave, I have a few words of advice. This world is different."

Kaelen cleared his throat, seemingly preparing himself for my reaction before continuing.

"In this universe, 20 percent of the population has super-powers that they call quirks. In this world, there are two sides, the heroes, and the villains. The villains use their quirks to wreak havoc, and the heroes stop them and save civilians. There are special schools that train children to be heroes."

As the information began to settle in my brain, I asked him a few questions.

"What is my powe-quirk gonna be? Also am I gonna be the same age? What do I do when I get there? Do I have a family in this universe?"

"I'm deeply sorry, [your name], but our time is up. We will meet again."

My eyes widened as a blue-white portal opened beneath me, a slight chill rising. "Wai-wait! You didn't answer my questions! Don't leave, please--!"
