5: stick together

Start from the beginning

Gi-hun gets stuck on words before speaking. "I don't think it is..."

"If not then what?" 100 demands, and I look at Gi-hun.

"I don't know."

"But you said you'd done this before. You were lying were you?"

"Leave him alone. The games probably changed since the last time he was here, you never know." I spoke up.

"No one is talking to you. So learn your place, little girl." He said and my jaw dropped.

"Little girl?"

"Go back to your playhouse."

"Go fix them dentures."

"Excuse me?" He steps forward before player 001 stepped in front of me, glaring at 100.

"That's enough." 001 simply said, making player 100 took a step back and a man from next to him had to open his mouth.

"Don't reason with this bastard. Stupid dalgona shit, go to hell." He says. "Let's team up together."

"Yeah." Player 100 nods and gestures the men behind him and they walk away, sending insults as they pass Gi-hun.

As the timer starts at ten minutes and goes down, I sigh and look at the ground.

"I'm sorry." Gi-hun says, looking at us.

"It's fine, I still trust you." 001 says, and I nod in agreement. "We should team up together."

I pause and look at us and counted, that's six including me and Seo-yeon, I can't leave her alone.

"You guys go. Me and Seo-yeon will find other people." I said.

They look at me like I'm growing a second head.

"You crazy? We need to stick together." Gi-hun says, turning towards me, I nod but gestures to the crowd of people.

"We'll be fine."

001 stepped forward. "Are you sure?"

I let out a sigh before nodding. "Yes." I turn towards Seo-yeon and grab her wrist. "Come on."

She gasped out of surprise but didn't complain, just went along as I looked around the crowd for three more teammates.

"Aww, why couldn't we stay with that hottie? Did you see the way he took up for you!" Seo-yeon shouts, I calm her down since it was kind of quiet in here.

"Calm down, it wasn't like that, plus he's way older than me." I whisper to her, still looking around for teammates.

"Ohhhh, even better."

I twist my neck to look at her, shushing her. "Damn what does it take to find a teammate?" I pull her with me as I tap someone. "You guys need more teammates?"

The man looks me up and down and chuckles. "Sorry, we're only looking for muscles."

I scrunch my eyebrows and walk away. "Rude." I say, Seo-yeon chuckling at me, I semi-glare at her but couldn't hold back a smile.

"Dana!" I heard someone shout my name, I stop my tracks and look around, that voice was very familiar. "Dana!"

I then saw... Minjun. My childhood friend.

He ran towards me with a shocked expression. "I knew that was you! What are you doing here?!"

"Me? What about you? What about your wife and children?" I ask.

He chuckled and rubbed his neck. "We're a little bit in debt, I got fired from my job four times this month. Two billion won."

I swear my jaw could fall off from how many times I've been shocked for the days I've been here, I've noticed Seo-yeon staring at Minjun.

"You're very handsome." She says and eyes him up and down, he laughs nervously.

I rub my temple. "Doesn't matter, join our team."

"Gladly, I don't wanna die." Minjun agrees immediately and we started to look for more teammates.

When the time ended, we found two more teammates, a woman and a man. I wasn't sure how this was going to work but I'm really interested of how it's going to go.

All the teams sat on the ground in rows, my team sitting in front of Gi-hun's team, I sighed deeply and rubbed my hands against my pants.

"The game you will participate in today is a Six-Legged Pentathlon." The voice on the speaker spoke, making my head spin. "Team members will start with their legs tied together. One member of the team will play a mini-game. If that player wins, the team can move on to the next challenge."

I rise my eyebrows and I trace the sand beneath me, moving my hair out of my face as the voice continues to explain the rules.

"The mini-games are as follows: Ddakji, Flying Stone, Gong-gi, Spinning Top, and finally, Jegi. You will have five minutes. To win, you must complete all mini-games and cross the finish line before time runs out. Now, decide which player will assigned to each game."

"Son of a bitch..." I heard someone from the group in front of me say, I think about which game I want to play.

"What're you thinking?" Minjun asked me, I sigh and shrugged my shoulders, I kept thinking, I honestly didn't know what.

"You guys pick what you want and I'll just take whatever is left." I say, they all nod and I sat, hand on my chin as I thought about Deon, I'm doing this for him and I just hope to get out alive so he could see me again.

Time is moving very slowly and I sigh with relief when the first two team's ankles get tied together and we all watch.

Then the guard raised his gun in the air, firing it.
