December 2017 Backstage
Axel had been inviting me to his shows for a long time and today I finally made it. When the show is over, I'm taken to the backstage area where I'm told to wait for him.
"Anaïs! There you are!" Axel called out, his voice cutting through the low hum of conversation. "I've got someone you have to meet."
Anaïs glanced up, mildly curious, only to find herself face to face with Felix. She recognized him immediately. His music had been a mainstay in her playlist for the past year.
Felix offered her a warm smile, his hand extended. "Nice to meet you. Axel's been singing your praises for the last ten minutes."
"Ten?" she teased, shaking his hand. "That's nothing. He usually doesn't stop."
Axel rolled his eyes dramatically. "Don't listen to her. Anyway, Felix, meet Anaïs—my ridiculously talented friend. She's going to take over the world one day."
Anaïs blushed, brushing it off. "I'm just- taking things slow right now."
Felix tilted his head. "Slow can be good. Means you're building something solid."
Axel smirked, sensing an opening. "Speaking of solid. You two should make an album together someday."
Anaïs laughed lightly, shaking her head. "Oh, come on. I'm nineteen. I'd just get in the way."
Felix raised an eyebrow. "Nineteen isn't too young to know what you want. But I get it. Timing matters."
"It's a cool idea, though," Anaïs said softly, her gaze meeting Felix's. "Maybe one day."
"One day." Felix echoed with a grin. "When the timing's right, we'll make it happen."
Axel clapped his hands together. "That's it! I'm holding you both to that."
As the night wore on, they found themselves deep in conversation, talking about their shared love of music, the creative process and the challenges of being in the industry. It wasn't romantic, but there was an ease to their connection, the kind that promised something more in the future.
When they finally parted ways, Anaïs walked away with the quiet certainty that their paths would cross again. Felix, meanwhile, couldn't shake the idea that Axel's playful suggestion might just be the start of something extraordinary.
November 2022: Forest National, Brussels
The crowd was electric, a sea of energy pulsing in sync with the beats Felix dropped. From her spot in the VIP area, Anaïs couldn't help but admire the way he commanded the stage. The lights danced over him, highlighting his tall frame and easy confidence and she could see why audiences around the world couldn't get enough of him.
She sipped her drink, tapping her foot to the rhythm, already imagining how her voice might weave into the kind of tracks he was playing. It wasn't the first time the thought had crossed her mind. Ever since they'd first joked about collaborating back in 2017, it had been lingering at the back of her mind, waiting for the right moment.
When the set ended, and the crowd erupted in cheers, she watched as Felix raised his arms in appreciation, a broad smile lighting up his face. Moments later, he disappeared backstage, and she made her way down to meet him.
"Anaïs!" Felix's voice boomed as soon as she stepped into the green room. He was toweling off, his shirt damp from the heat of the performance. "You made it!"
"Of course I did." she replied, grinning. "Like I'd miss your big night in Brussels."
"Big night?" he teased, slinging the towel over his shoulder. "It's just another set."
"Don't downplay it." she shot back. "That crowd was insane, and you killed it."
Felix chuckled, running a hand through his damp hair. "Thanks. So, how's the tour life treating you?"
"Tiring." she admitted, plopping onto the couch. "But it's good. You know how it is. Different city every night, barely enough time to breathe."
"I hear you." Felix said, sitting down beside her. "But hey, remember what you said back in 2017? Something about collaborating?"
Anaïs laughed, the memory coming back to her.
"Oh, don't remind me. I was so cocky back then. I was like, 'Hey Felix, let's make an album together!' like it was the easiest thing in the world."
He grinned. "You weren't wrong, though. We should make an album together."
She raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? And when exactly do you plan to fit that into your schedule, Mr. World Tour?"
"Next year." he said, surprising her with his seriousness. "I've got some free time coming up. What about you?"
Anaïs blinked, caught off guard. "Next year? You're not joking?"
"Not even a little." he replied, leaning back against the couch. "I've been thinking about it for a while. We've always talked about it, but we've never actually done it. Why not now?"
She hesitated, her mind racing. "I mean- I'd have to rearrange some things, but yeah, why not? It could be fun."
Felix's smile widened. "Fun? Anaïs, this could be legendary."
She laughed, shaking her head.
"Okay, calm down, DJ Superstar. I'll think about it."
"Think about it?" he teased. "What's there to think about? Just stop by the studio, and we'll figure it out."
She rolled her eyes, but the excitement in her chest was hard to ignore. "Fine. I'll stop by. But no promises."
"Deal." Felix said, holding out his hand.
She shook it, feeling the spark of something, excitement, anticipation, maybe even a hint of nervousness.
