⋆˚✿˖° Chapter 8 ⋆˚✿˖°

"Oh my, so my twin four eyes were in love? As your fellow four eyes why did you hide it from me?" Ku asked, even though it was a sarcasm, he acted as if he was hurt and let out a fake gasp. "You probably don't want anyone to find out and have to keep it secret to protect her. Oh, young love.."

"No!" He waved his hand, his face getting even redder at the teasing from both of them. "You're wrong, Chika is the little sister of an indebted senpai of mine! That's all!"

"Oh really?" Yuma asked. "But more importantly if it's so obvious she's being targeted by a Neighbor. Wouldn't it be okay to ask Border for help."

Mikumo turns cold at that.

"I can't." He then looked down as if reminiscing a memory. "Chika doesn't want to involve other people in her troubles. She's afraid that if she drags other people into it, she'd be the only one to escape the Neighbor unscathed. I don't know why she thinks that way."

Ku shifted his gaze towards Chika, Replica's almost done with the analysis. She observed the girl. She looks so much like Mirai. Her personality fits her well too, just a little stronger. He can't help but remember the things similar to this scene.

A younger Ku stared at the tall albino standing with him as he let the cold wind hit his face. "Akane-san, why don't you just run away?  With us here you can do that perfectly."

The sky was dark, so many bright things were shining in the sky. Just like Ku's eyes. However, unlike the future, his eyes in this scene were shinning brighter than usual.

The so-called Akane looked down at him with a soft smile, oh to see that smile again, "Can't. Do you really think I'll leave you three here? It's me who they want so I'll let them come here for as long as they want so I can stay with you all."

Ku stared at her curiously, "Why?  If this continues what if they succeed abducting you?"

"I'm not afraid of them succeeding in abducting me. If that happened  then you all can get out of this hell safely. And not only that.." Akane looked down at Ku, her short white hair swaying with the wind as her Golden Yellow eyes stared down at Ku's Diamond like one. She gave her a closed eye smile and the sight made Ku's heart ache, "It's the right thing to do."

"Ku?" Yuma had pulled him out of his trance. "Something's wrong?" Mikumo looked at him with concern as it happened.

"Huh?" Ku blinked. "I'm fine." He gave Yuma a look that says 'don't you dare" before Yuma could say that he is lying.

Yuma noticed the gaze and changed the topic, "It's so clear now, you decided to join Border to protect Chika." Osamu was quick to respond as he turned red once again.

"It's not like I wanted to help or anything! I just wanted to protect the city." He was met with both doubted looks from the Neighbors.

"It's so obvious you're lying. You're Boring." Yuma said.

When their conversation continued, Ku saw a motion of something from where Replica and Chika was doing measurement only for a big cube of trion to come out.

"Ohh, that's double the size our refrigerator.." Ku mused

"Measurement complete."

"?!"

"Wow it's bigger compared to Osamus!"

Replica made hiz way back to the three as he floated next to Yuma. "It's unusual, I have no recollection of a trion organ being that big."

"Awesome! So that's why she's being targeted by a Neighbor!" Yuma's eyes brightened while Mikumo looked at him in disbelief

"This is not something to be excited about!"

"Not really," Ku pointed out as he walked closer, his hands in the pocket of his hoodie, "No wonder they're targeting her. For her age, it's an amusingly very high amount of trion. When she grow up that could expand most likely if she trained. If her trion increased, that can make her unbeatable."

"Well.." Mikumo trailed off, "The real challenge is to find out how to settle all this!"

"I think the most pragmatic thing to do is to go to Border." Replica added his input. "They can shelter her there."

"But you wouldn't want that? Would you Chika?" Yuma read the expression on her face.

"That's right, I don't want to trouble people with my problems." The girl was still sitting on the bench. Contemplating. "Up to now, I've managed by myself so from now on I'll stay the same!"

"The most unexpected things can happen in the future, kid." Ku went behind her as he patted her head once more, "As time goes by, many neighbors might come to this place and abduct you. Not because you've managed to escape for a while doesn't mean you can every time."

"Uh...well." Osamu cut in after Chika's hesitance. "Listen there's no valid reason to pre-" Everything stopped. Ku and Yuma perked up at the sounds of footsteps. Yuma turned his head and saw two figures while Ku moved in front of Chika as he hid her from the figure's sight.

Two high schoolers. They're wearing the First Mikado City High School. It was the school Miku went to but Ku didn't know any of them. One was casual, currently sipping his juice box, hair reaching the start of his shoulders. While the other one was more serious, eyes were ice cold. Looks like someone who doesn't give up easily.

"Don't move." The serious one said, piercing gaze on all of them. "It's Border."

What a pain.
