Mikumo looked confused but smiled, "Mikage-san sounds like a good friend of yours."

"Right? Shu always says he has other team- friends out there and I'll meet them soon so I guess I'm one step away from meeting one of them." Jin said with a smile. "I'm hoping his friends would be easy going like him though."

"The Origin of the gates opening in town areas has been confirmed. It's a deed of this small neighbor. Border will act right away and all at once to exterminate them. This thing was discovered thanks to an anonymous information to border!"

In the distance, Ku and a companion sat on a park bench as the news was played broadcast live, the younger Ku sipping from a straw. "So Kuga already told them, huh...?" he muttered.

His companion, a tall man with long silver hair in a high ponytail, clad in a loose white shirt and black cargo pants, chuckled, his purple eyes twinkling. "You're telling me this Kuga knows about your trigger?" His tone was curious, amused, not angry.

"Not exactly," Ku admitted, "He doesn't know the specifics, but he knows I use something. He figured it out during the Ilgar attack."

The taller man, Shu, hummed thoughtfully. "This is tricky. Think Mitsuki will approve?"

Ku rolled his eyes. "You don't sound worried. And Mitsuki will be mad, but he'll understand. He trusts me. Besides, Mitsuki is smart."

Shu grinned. "Right~"

Ku brightened, a sudden thought striking him. "Oh, and Shu, I want to join Border."

SILENCE

Silence. A heavy, pregnant silence. Ku watched Shu, his usually playful eyes now intense, dark and shining in the daylight. It was a look Ku hadn't seen in a long time, not since that day.

After a tense moment, Ku sighed, ready to retract his statement. "Forget it-"

"Sure," Shu replied, his voice was calm.

Ku stared, utterly shocked. Shu was smiling, eyes closed. It was unbelievable, yet a wave of relief washed over Ku. His friend was softening, becoming less...cold. He knew Shu had contacts within Border, but that intense gaze had made him doubt his chances.

Shu continued, "It's not a big deal, but it wouldn't be fair if I can talk to people on Border, and you can't, right?"

Ku was speechless. Flabbergasted. His usually cold and flirtatious friend...this was a complete transformation.

Another sigh escaped Ku, this one softer, followed by a small smile. "Right."

Shu stood, stretching. "Okay, I'm heading out. Got a meeting."

Ku stood as well, the height difference making him feel small. "Okay. But who's the meeting with?"

Shu paused, turning back with a grin. "You'll meet him soon."

Ku watched him leave. Curious. Meet who? Him? Soon? What the hell is his teammate talking about? Has he gone insane again-

--

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as Ku strolled through the city. He wasn't actively searching, but the lingering scent of trion, faint yet sharp, guided his steps.
