The Academy

Is this reality or a nightmare?

I woke up in a heavy daze and with tired eyes. I held my head with my hand because there was a loud beeping sound and sharp pain in my arm. But I was lying in a soft and fluffy bed. With a relieved sigh I thought to myself it must have all been just a nightmare. I opened my eyes and to me demise I was not in my room. I jolted up with a scream and an even worse headache. "Where am I?!" Hello! Is there anyone there?" I felt the awful pain in my head again and held it in my hand hissing at the pain. I looked at my surroundings and found myself in what looked to be a hospital room. The loud beeping was coming from an IV machine and the sharp pain was coming from a needle in my arm. In the bag hanging from the IV rack looked to be like water. There was also a glass of water on the bedside table. I just realized how thirsty I was. I grabbed the glass and drank it all in a few gulps. I set the glass down and got up. I had to use the IV rack for support because I lost balance and almost fell on the ground. "That would have been the third time I fell to the ground" I said angrily. I headed for the door in the corner of the room but when I turned the knob I found that it was locked. "What? Why is it locked! I can't stay in here I have to get back home! Or find that address or something!" I went back to the bed and sat on the edge. "I just gotta take real deep breaths and try not to panic, I can find a way out of here. I looked at the window on the other side of the room and walked towards it. I was way too high for me to reach even if I jumped. I sighed heavily "How the hell am I gonna get up there?" I started to think but nothing came to mind. I went back to the bed and sat down frustrated. "Hey maybe I can use the bed!" I got up and had a closer look at it. "Aw it has no wheels..." I was probably still to weak to be even pushing a door open let alone a bed, but I tried anyway. I went to the end of the bed and started to push with, no results. I wasn't going to give up that easily though. "Come on you stupid thing move!" I was pushing with all my might "Gahh! Come on MOVE!" I felt that freezing wind again and I started to feel cold all over, but I payed it no mind. With one last final try I put all my force and strength into it and felt a cold blast come from my hands. The recoil knocked me against the wall but the blast itself was so powerful that it shot the bed to the other side of the room right in front of the window. "I'm still not getting used to that." I headed over to the bed still using the IV rack for support. I climbed up and opened the window. "Haha! Success!" I gave myself a mental high five and started to climb out the window. When I got my head out I almost threw up. I was in a very tall building at least 30 stories up. I climbed back down onto the bed and put my back up against the wall and curled into a ball. "Ok we are not going that way because I will die if I do haha what is going on AND WHERE AM I!" I was starting to have a mental breakdown but before I could cause any real harm to myself I heard the door unlock and open. I sat up on the bed to see who was coming in. It was a doctor! "Hello? Is anyone in here?" And where's the bed?" I got up as fast as I could and ran up to him "Please you have to get me out of here I'm gonna have a mental breakdown if I don't get back home!" He stared at me for a few seconds before saying anything. "There is a lot of things to explain to you right now and not a lot of time. Come follow me." He walked out the door and I followed him right at his heels. "Please Dr. uhh..?" "Merek." "Ok Dr. Merek please tell me where I am!" "I can't tell you that right now." "What why?!" "Look kid I have a job to do and that is to make sure that you get to the president with you keeling over ok?" "The president? Like of the United States?" "Ha! You wish." Well he's not the nicest doctor I've met, in fact he's kind of a jerk. "Ok then...well who is your president?" "Jesus you ask a lot of questions can't you just shut up and walk?" With a irritated huff I decided to listen and stay quiet. We walked up to a secretary's desk which came up to my chest. "I'm here to see the president I have the new girl." New girl? What does he mean by new girl? The woman pressed a button with even looking at us or saying anything. Where's the hospitality? Is everyone here a complete asshole? The wall behind her had a secret door the slid up into the ceiling. Thats pretty cool. The doctor got my attention with an impatient "Hmm Mm!" I looked at him with a dumb face. "Are you coming?" "Oh, yeah, sorry." I ran over to him and passed through the threshold of the room. I saw a man in a very official looking chair with a very official looking suit and a very official looking mustache. This guy must mean business. "I'll leave you two alone to talk." The doctor walked out of the room, the door closing behind him. The man looked at me and said with a emotionless voice "Sit." I did as I was told immediately and sat in the chair in front of his desk. "State your name." I cleared my throat and spoke in a hushed and scared voice "My name is Violet." "Speak up!" His booming voice startled me "Violet!" I said louder. "Alright Violet do you know where you are?" No and I would like to find out! Well Violet you will not find that out now." "Ughhhh I just want some answers!" "In due time my dear but for now you need to just be quiet and listen to what I am going to tell you. You where born with a very very special gift. Nothing that no one has ever seen before in our world or the human world." His world? What does he mean? "This building this place that has been built is used for people like you and me." He can do things too?! I wonder what they are..."This academy was built by my father's father, and has since been passed down generation to generation. We have given it a simple name "' The Academy.'" "You will stay in this Academy and you will train and study with the other students. Speaking of students I would like you to meet one now. A boy about my age walked through the the door. He had short straight black hair that was longer on the left side and almost touched his eye. "This is Calum he's the one who saved you." "Thank you so much I don't know what would have happened if you didn't show up." "You would have died which would have jeopardized everything!" "Calum hush." "*sigh* Yes sir." "Now since he is the one that saved you, he will be the one training with you." "What!" Calum and I shouted in unison, Calum looking back to glare at me. I returned the look with a weak smile and terrified eyes. "Now now I know it's not ordeal but it's what must be done. We will get you initiated officially tomorrow Violet." All I could do was nod with all that's happened. "Alright so are we all settled? Good. Violet you should go back to your room and get some rest, you have a big day tomorrow." I nodded again. "Have a good evening." I started to head for the door with Calum at my side. "Oh! And one last thing." What now? "You'll show Violet around the facilities tomorrow won't you son?" "Of course father." Calum said through clenched teeth. What! He's his dad and I have to train with him? Could this day get any worse?
