The Alpha's Call

I opened my eyes, feeling the silky sheets beneath my body. Those sheets seemed to beg me to stay longer than I should. I sensed the sun's reflection brightening the room. Turning to my left, I felt the smooth touch of the sheets against my bare shoulder. I noticed the curtains swaying with the rhythm of an unpredictable breeze. Unpredictable breeze, unpredictable life, unpredictable destiny.

I am a twenty-three-year-old man with much ahead of me. Each morning, I wake up to work at a small but good technical office. I am a designer, living in a small place called 'Symbiosis.' This is where different species of wolves coexist under one roof. Here, we have alphas, betas, and omegas living together harmoniously. This place is nothing short of heaven and remains forbidden to humans, where distinctions like male and female dominate. Unlike humans, who obsess over physical differences, we focus on power to determine levels in our society.

Humans, with their fragile coexistence, struggle over equal rights. But who cares? We are smarter—far more intelligent than the creatures who share the Earth with us.

Speaking of my people, the strongest among us are the alphas. And, like everyone else, I love alphas—especially as an omega. They protect us, fight for us, and take on tasks requiring immense strength because nature designed them that way. Alphas are larger and stronger, but we omegas have our own strengths. I dream of finding an alpha to call my own—someone I can share my home and life with.

Betas, on the other hand, are a different story. To be honest, I'm not interested in them. Why settle for a beta when you can adore alphas all day and night? Betas are strong but not as powerful as alphas. They're larger than omegas but lack the allure we possess. Without the intoxicating scent that omegas naturally exude, betas fail to attract alphas.

It's believed that nature first created betas before blessing the world with alphas and omegas. We are nature's masterpiece, while betas are left in the middle, neither blessed nor cursed. I've rarely thought much about them; my attention is always on the alphas.

Now, let's talk about us omegas. While we may lack the physical strength of other wolves, our unique scent can drive any alpha wild. We may appear weak, but our power lies in influence and control. Some of us can hold an alpha's gaze and bend their will with mere concentration. My mother could do it, and so can I—but it takes great focus. I feel truly blessed to be an omega and would choose this life again and again.

Our society has many rules and regulations, especially for alphas and omegas, designed to ensure harmony. We have a parliament, mostly dominated by alphas, with a few omegas to represent us. Betas are prohibited from holding any seats, perhaps because they're not deemed intelligent enough. But honestly, who cares about them?

I finally turned off the alarm that had been ringing for fifteen minutes on my bedside table. Dragging myself out of bed, I headed to my bathroom to get ready for work. Unlike our ancestors, we all work now—alphas, omegas, and even betas. Thanks to our collective effort and advanced technology, Symbiosis has become a thriving hub.

There's a stunning alpha in my office—a "she." Yes, here, power determines levels, not gender. Female and male alphas are equally respected, and I'm equally smitten by both. I sound a bit crazy, I know, but that's me—a young, passionate omega dreaming of alphas. I wouldn't mind having children with one someday, though I get shy just thinking about it.

I was dressed and ready for work, wearing a light blue shirt tucked neatly into black pants. I applied moisturizer to my face and styled my hair. As a human might describe me, I'm a man—but in our world, I'm an omega.

I walked into my kitchen, the quiet solitude of my home greeting me. I live alone, having left my parents' house long ago. I earn a decent living, enough to sustain myself comfortably, but something always feels missing. I yearn for an alpha—not just for the physical bond, but for the love and connection I desperately crave. No matter how much I can provide for myself, there's something infinitely more precious about receiving a gift from someone who loves you.

I've dated a few alphas before, but for reasons unknown, none of them turned out to be the one. Perhaps they weren't destined to be mine. So, I wait—no, I desperately wait for my alpha, my destined love. I silently pray, Oh goddess of all omegas, please send my alpha into my life as soon as you can.

Breakfast was simple: toast and an omelet. After finishing, I grabbed my keys and drove myself to the office. My car hummed along the familiar streets until I reached my destination. Stepping inside, my eyes fell on her—Jessi. She sat in her usual spot, exuding confidence. As I walked past, she checked me out and gave me a wink.

I couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride at her reaction. Maybe she liked how I looked today. Is she my destined one? I wondered, though the thought left me uneasy.

"Hi, Jessi," I greeted her as sweetly as I could, placing my suit jacket on my desk, which was conveniently close to hers. She was still looking at me, and something about her gaze made me squirm. I coughed, hoping to redirect her attention to my face instead of... elsewhere.

"Hi, Jimin," she replied, her tone casual but amused.

I sank into my chair, realizing she probably wasn't the one. My search for my alpha continued. Letting out a deep sigh, I turned to my laptop, its screen displaying a familiar project I lacked the energy to tackle. My thoughts drifted, pulling me away from the mundane.

That's when I noticed it—a small packet of dark chocolate sitting on my desk. I chuckled softly. It was the same kind I used to give someone during my college days, someone who had once been my world.

"Hey," I greeted him, a shy smile on my face as I slid into the chair beside him. I placed my books on the desk and held out a bar of dark chocolate, something I'd bought especially for him.

"Hey," he replied curtly, shifting slightly to put some distance between us.

I knew I wasn't as good-looking as him, but I couldn't help being drawn to him. He was taller than me, not overly muscular but strong for a student. His handsome face and quiet demeanor made him the object of admiration for many, though I'd never seen him with anyone. He was reserved, preferring books over people, often wearing glasses that only added to his allure.

To me, he was the epitome of a hot alpha, though back then, I wasn't sure if I'd turn out to be an omega. That day, however, I realized how submissive I felt around him—how completely captivated I was.

He was two years younger than me but already carried the presence of an alpha. Wolves typically discover their nature at twenty-one, though omegas sometimes realize it earlier. He hadn't officially been declared an alpha, but everyone just knew. His determined face, big bambi eyes, thin lips, and broad chest were enough to set him apart.

Back then, I was so young and naïve, dreaming of marriage without considering money or responsibilities. He made me forget everything else when I was with him.

I smiled at the memory, wondering how he might look now. He'd be twenty-two, just like I was when I last saw him. He probably had an omega by his side, someone lucky enough to claim him. I chuckled at myself, still thinking about him after all these years.

Placing the small packet of dark chocolate back where I found it, I shook my head at my own silliness. Suddenly, someone called my name.

"Jimin."

The voice sent shivers down my spine. Goosebumps prickled my skin as I turned to see who it was.
