"Ahaha.. Looks like we're caught, Replica " Yuma scratched the back of his head so Replica came out of nowhere and floated next to Yuma, "Seems like we are."
"What are you doing at this hour? If people saw you they'll get suspicious y'know?" Ku put his right arm in the pocket of his hoodie.
"I should be asking you that question." Yuma looked at Ku's left shoulder that is covered by his hoodie. "Aren't you injured? Why are you out here then? In the middle of the night?"
Ku sighed, "Why would I tell you? I asked you first."
They made eye contact.
Silence
"Replica said he wants to check up on something so here we are." Yuma answered first so Ku followed, "Ah, same here."
As they decided to go together, Yuma and Ku, along with Replica, moved as a unit, their footsteps a rhythmic counterpoint to the silence within the old school building. The air felt thick with the scent of dust and aged wood, a subtle undercurrent of something idefinably unsettling. As they ascended the creaking staircase, Yuma, seemingly driven by a need to fill the void, turned to Ku.
"Hey, you scared of ghosts?" he asked, the question hanging in the air like a wisp of smoke.
Ku, his gaze steady, responded with a calm, "Not really. Why?"
Yuma shrugged, a nonchalant gesture that belied a possible underlying reason. "No reason. I just feel bored." Ku remained silent, his attention focused on the shadowy recesses of the hallway.
The silence stretched, punctuated only by the occasional creak of the floorboards beneath their feet. Yuma, seemingly restless, broke the silence again. "Ku."
"Yes?" Ku replied, his voice barely a whisper.
"You scared of the dark?" The question was simple, yet it held a hint of something more.
"No," Ku answered, his tone unwavering.
"M'kay," Yuma mumbled, seemingly content with the response.
They continued their ascent, the rhythmic echo of their footsteps growing louder with each step. The hallway stretched before them, a seemingly endless corridor of shadows. Yuma, seemingly growing more restless, spoke again. "Ku."
"Yes?"
"Wanna play?" The question hung in the air, unexpected and slightly out of place.
Ku, whose expertise lay in the realm of gaming, found himself intrigued. "What game?"
"Two Lies and a Truth," Yuma replied, the words hanging in the air. Ku paused, a flicker of surprise crossing his features. Two Lies and a Truth? Why now? He dismissed it as a simple attempt to alleviate boredom, a common occurrence with Yuma. "Sure," he agreed, "Who wants to go first?" It seems like Ku had forgotten Yuma's side effect that allows him to detect lies. Typical Ku. It's nothing surprising.
"Ah, if someone cheated they lose by the way." Ku reminded.
"I'll go," Yuma declared. "So, uhhh… One: I am Japanese and have been living here ever since I was born. Two: I am a neighbor from the other world, like the ones that attacked Meeden. Three: I was born with natural white hair."
