"Clever. But will that be enough?"

Fusion stumbled backward from the light, fixing his stance as he was about to dash again.

"I will not fall today! My teachers will be done!"

Roswall summoned pillars of light from the ground where Fusion was standing.

As fast as Fusion was, even he wasn't able to dodge all of them.

Fuck!

He tanked the full hit of the light pillar.

Fusion was hurling towards the ground as the pillar hit him. He slowed down after a couple of seconds before finally coming to a full stop.

Roswall flew towards him proudly.

"Begone, shadow." He opened his palm buffer before he could finish his spell his arm got cut off with a clean strike.

"W-what?!" Roswall exclaimed in shock.

But he only met with Elsa's sadist smile.

"Y-you!" Roswall summoned another pillar of light below himself to kill Elsa. But before his will come to pass. His head was cut off.

The dark facade around Fusion was weakened considerably because of the damage he suffered. His face was almost fully visible.

"Oh my, what a treat." Elsa said seductively.

Fusion chuckled. "A hand, would you?" Elsa reached to his side, supporting him to stand up.

"Beating sword saint on your own but losing to a mere magician? What happened?"

"Well, saint didn't know I am made of shadows. But this fellow over here got the bright idea of using pure light magic on me."

Fusion nudged the dead Roswall.

"Ohh. So that's what happened! I was thinking maybe my new powerful new lord wasn't as powerful as I had thought.~"

Elsa mused.

"Ha ha. We should see to Subaru. Retract your forces. The distraction was successful. He should take control of the Emilia camp from now on"

"As you wish. And are you not forgetting something?"

"Hmm? Oh. And make sure maids survive their encounter. And... Thank you for the save."

Elsa smiled happily.

Subaru was in a vicious stalemate with the shades.

It was insanely taxing for him to fight for his life while keeping tabs on Emilia's safety.

"They are too many!" Emilia shouted.

"I know! Just stay close to me." Subaru said over his back while slashing at another shade.

And then... a spear of light pierced through the circling shades around Subaru.

"Beatrice?" Subaru said hopefully.

"Damn right, indeed!"

Beatrice was piercing through the sea of shadows with a light shield orbiting around her.

"Get in! I suppose."

With Beatrice's order, Subaru and Emilia got inside the orbiting light shield.

The light... it hurts.

Subaru thought as he entered the area of the shield.

"I can't keep this forever, but it should buy us enough time until we can get to the library."
