Chapter 3: Role-Playing Games (2)

Start from the beginning

Meanwhile, no goblin was approaching us, perhaps because I had killed one so quickly in the beginning. The goblins must have decided to focus on the fleeing targets rather than mess with me. Having figured this out herself, Jisu sat closer to me.

"They told us to clear the main quest. What is the main quest?" she asked cautiously.

"They might tell us soon."

Since the users had joined, notifications would appear, whether we liked it or not. Speaking of the devil, a large notification window appeared immediately.

[Main Quest 1: Escape the College Campus!

Countless goblins will come after you. You must run either away from them or kill them to successfully escape the college campus.

Difficulty Level E; Time Limit: 2 Days]

[The main quest has begun. Each player will earn rewards according to their accomplishments.]

As soon as the notification appeared, multiple Observers showed up and scattered in different directions to capture moments that would entertain the gods.

"Sehan, wh-what about those?" Jisu pointed at the Observers, noticing them just now.

"I'll explain later," I replied. "Let's get moving now."

"Get moving? Where?" Jisu asked in a flustered voice that got buried in the sound of people screaming.

"Gaaah! Help me!"

"Shit, what's that?!"

As soon as the alarm went off to announce the beginning of the quest, the goblins, who had been hiding behind the bushes, ran out in throngs. The number of goblins had ballooned from just a few to dozens. The goblins shrieked and growled as they indiscriminately wielded the blunt knives at people.

Slash!

"Aaack!"

Red blood coated the ground.

"Run, Jisu!" I shouted.

"O-okay!"

Now larger in number, the goblins began to come after us as well. Jisu and I ran away from the goblins at full speed. While others stayed in groups, we ran towards sparsely populated areas. A few goblins were chasing after us.

"What about the other people...?" Grabbing my hand, Jisu said with an anxious face. She couldn't finish her sentence.

"It's all right," I said to her as I slowly came to a stop.

"What?"

"There won't be too many casualties yet," I explained. "Goblins are only as strong as average adult males."

Moreover, their attacks would die down once people start to band together. They were only attacking aggressively because people were split up—until the Hobgoblins show up, that is.

Hobgoblins are the chief monsters that command these goblins. Consider them as stage bosses. A few repeating monster waves would make the Hobgoblins appear, and the subordinate goblins would wipe out the people in groups at once.

So, I took another step forward.

[You have entered the Safe Zone.]

"Huh?" Jisu widened her eyes out of curiosity. "A Safe Zone?"

"If this is really a game, there must be an area that monsters cannot enter," I said. "This must be one of those safe areas."

"Oh, I see."

Actually, I stumbled into the Safe Zone in my previous life while running away with tears flowing down my face. While it didn't feel great, I needed a place to kill some time.
