15. Always Mine

Depuis le début

“Yes? What is it?”

Mr. Jeon didn’t hesitate. “We’re here with two proposals—one, a business contract. And two... a marriage proposal. For your daughter. My son wishes to marry her.”

Haejin’s eyes widened, but it was Mingyu who spoke first.

“What?”

“You heard him,” Jungkook said firmly. “I want to marry Yn.”

“Why?” Haejin asked, confused. “And why this suddenly?”

He hadn’t expected this. Not in his wildest calculations. The Jeons were powerful. Arrogant. Influential.

Why his daughter? Was there something he didn't know about?

Was there something going on between Jungkook and Yn? Did Yn know?

“I like her,” Jungkook said, his voice unwavering. “I want her as my wife. And if you agree, we’ll finalize a deal to source all appliances for our future resorts through the Jungs.”

It was tempting. Too tempting.
The potential profits were enormous. The exposure, invaluable.

But Haejin looked toward Mingyu—his son wore the same conflicted expression.
Would they really let business decide Yn’s life?

No. Never.

“Thank you for the proposal,” Haejin said, voice firm. “But I’d like to ask Yn first. And whatever she decides will be our final decision.”

Mr. Jeon nodded respectfully. “Of course. Let us know. We should take our leave.”

Handshakes were exchanged, but the weight of what had just happened lingered in the room.

Later That afternoon

YN had just returned home and was heading to her room when she noticed a maid carrying two coffee mugs toward her father’s office.

“Is there a guest?”

The maid smiled. “No, child. Just for Mr. Jung and young master Mingyu.”

YN nodded, confused. Her Appa was rarely home this early.

After freshening up, she changed into soft grey shorts and a loose crop top, then headed toward the office. She knocked twice.

“Come in,” Mingyu called.

She stepped in to find both her father and brother with serious expressions.

They had been waiting for this moment, unsure how to approach the subject. The deal papers sat between them—bold words that could change everything. But not more than her decision.

“Appa? You’re home early. Is something wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong, princess. Come sit. We need to discuss something important about your future. But know this—your decision will be our final one.”

Her heart skipped.
Future?

“What is it? Is it bad?”

“No, love. Just surprising,” Haejin said, gently. “Today, Mr. Jeon and Jungkook visited us with a marriage proposal... for you. Did you know anything about this?”

YN’s breath hitched.

“No! No, Appa, I swear I didn’t!”

“Shhh, it’s okay,” Haejin said softly. Mingyu rubbed her back to calm her.

“I didn’t know,” she repeated with a shaky sigh.

“Alright. Then what do you feel about this? Jungkook? The marriage? Be honest. We’ll support you either way.”

YN looked between their faces—both so serious, both so... waiting.

“I’m not ready,” she said finally. “I want to focus on my studies. And marriage… I can’t think about that right now. Jungkook is nice, but I—”

“You don’t need to explain,” Haejin interrupted, squeezing her hand. “Your answer is enough.”

“Thank you, Appa. I was just... surprised.”

“You did well speaking your truth,” he said. “Now, come. Let’s eat.”

At the Jeon Mansion

Jungkook sat restlessly in his home office, staring at his phone like it might bleed answers. He’d tried working. Failed. Tried ignoring it. Failed again. His mind spun only around one thing: her answer.

Then the call came. He picked up instantly. His father didn’t sugarcoat it.

“She denied.”

Two words.

Like poison slipping through his veins.

“What?” he whispered.

“She said she’s not ready. She wants to complete her studies first.”

“I see.”

Calm. Too calm.

“Are you alright, son?”

A question his father never asked—not even when he returned home with bullet wounds.

“I’m fine.”

He hung up.

‘She denied.’

He felt like he’d known it—somewhere deep in his bones—but the sting was unbearable. She was young, and her priorities were valid.

But...

She didn’t see it.
Didn’t see how far he’d go for her.

Maybe he should’ve said he loved her, not just liked her.

Would that have changed anything?

He didn’t know.

He walked into the bathroom, turned on the cold water, and stood under it. Letting the rejection numb out under the icy stream. He needed to think clearly. He needed to stay sane.

Jungkook

After the shower, I walked into my bedroom, a towel wrapped low around my waist. My feet led me to the picture beside my bed.

Her picture.

I traced her face with my fingertip.
So soft. So innocent. So... mine.

She looked like an angel who had no idea that a devil was ready to crawl through hell for her.

“I would’ve given you the world,” I whispered.

I still will.

But this if...

this rejection—it wasn’t real. It wasn’t final.

You’ll be mine.

You have to.

Not just for my heart—but for my sanity.

I’ll do whatever it takes.

Whatever.

By hook or crook, sweetheart...
You’ll be mine.
