I looked around and saw a few people staring at us. Right now, all I wanted was for the angel of death to come collect me now. I was sure that going with him would be way better than staying here and getting humiliated in front of most of the student body.

“He doesn’t need you to decide for him, Adrian.’ Landon smirked. “He seems capable of making his own decisions.”

“You heard him, as did I. So back off.” He pushed at Landon who stumbled back into a girl which caused her to spill her drink all over her shirt. Landon’s sister arrived and interfered before a fight could break out.

“See you later, Travis.” Landon walked off but not before he sent a wink in my direction.

Adrian turned around and stared me down. “He didn’t do anything to you did he?”

I remembered how hot he felt and the feel of his… I cleared my throat. “No, n-nothing. He didn’t do anything.”

“Why do you let guys like that pick on you?” I looked to the front door and saw Landon and his sister in a heated argument.

I ignored Adrian in favor of getting a drink to cool myself off. I looked over to Landon again and watched as he leaned against the wall clearly ignoring whatever it was that his sister was saying. He looked over to me and winked. I turned my head and swallowed hard. I didn’t want to come tonight. All I wanted to do was stay at home, order some food from that Chinese restaurant down the street and watch a marathon of Harry Potter.

I took a deep breath, leaned against the counted and thought about how all of this started.

I honestly don’t know what I did to be treated this way. Like I was a slave in this unruly world. I scowled and winced as the pain of being slammed into a locker went through my back.

“Move it, Nerd.” One of the many school bullies sneered. Yes, instead of there being only one, or even two people, there was an entire group of these assholes dedicated to making my life, and all the other less popular folk’s lives, as miserable as possible.

“You never give up do you?” Another one, a girl, came up and leaned so close to me that I could smell the scent of tobacco on her breath. “Why don’t you just transfer already, fag.”

“And give you the satisfaction? No way.” I straightened up and stood at least a head taller than her.

“Why you son of a bitch” I saw a punch coming my way and moved so that the guy’s fist hit the locker instead.

“I could say that you deserved that, but that would be too kind.” I heard a familiar voice say behind the asshole.

I craned my neck and saw that Adrian had come. I smiled in relief and saw him change his expression is a way that asked ‘are you okay?’ I nodded and noticed that Mr. Asshole- his name was Wyatt- saw our silent conversation.

“Of course, trust the nerd to call upon his bodyguard to come and save the day.”

“Quit being such a douche.” Adrian moved over to come and stand next to me.

“Sticking up for your boyfriend again, Adrian?” Wyatt snickered.

I heard a few of his minions- yes, that’s what they deserved to be called- let out some chuckles of their own.

“You know I’m dating Mary Alice. Why do you keep making your homophobia know? Scared the school will find out that you’re closeted?” Adrian smirked.

I heard a collection of gasps in the background. “Shut up.”

I could see the anger in Wyatt’s eyes and I flinched at how scary his death glare was. All I wanted to do right then was get the hell out of there because I certainly didn’t like the way things were headed.
