06 - I'm a very modest human thing

Stark parties. Why? I'm not sure. So when none other than Stark himself shoved me in the direction of the Black Widow and Scarlet Witch, telling me to buy some girly things to make me pretty, I was thoroughly confused.

"I gave Nat my card. You can go out, eat, shop, get... girly things, I guess. Just don't max out my card." He gave a pointed look to his wife, Pepper, who stood in the front doorway of the tower.

"We won't use it all," Wanda said, rolling her eyes, her accent thick.

"I trust so... Aye, Bond, you think you could handle yourself in a rough situation?" He looked over at me.

I gave a huff and nodded. I still hated that nickname. Surprisingly, he and Clint had managed to get me to watch every James Bond movie. Every. Single. One. Some were good, some not so much.

"Good. Let's go." Natasha grabbed my wrist and led me out of the tower. Once we exited the doors, I promptly removed my wrist from her vice grip, shooting a tiny glare at her.

She held her hand up in a mock-surrender. "Relax, 007. No need to get defensive."

Pepper huffed from behind us. "Now, Y/N, do you know how to drive?"

I look at the blonde and nod. Yeah, I knew how to drive... "Motorcycles," I say.

"Well, we're taking a car. Not motorcycles. Hop in." Wanda gestured to a sleek black Jeep that looked like it'd be in those strange Sci-Fi movies that Clint seemed to like watching only to debunk later with his own skills.

I grumble something in Russian and clamber into the passenger seat, not used to this form of automobile. This was actually my first time out of the Avengers Tower since I got here. So maybe getting to see all of Manhattan would be a good thing... Right?

Getting to the mall was excruciating. Something that Pepper liked to call 'rush hour' which was apparently when all of the local civilians got off from their usual day jobs an went home to their families or a new concept that I learned was called 'pets.'

The traffic was terrible, but we got to the mall by the time the clock inside the vehicle struck about 13:00.

"Let's go find dresses!" Pepper smiled and Wanda shared her grin, though a little less enthusiastic meanwhile Natasha groaned. Simply from observation, she was not a dressy person, but she would look absolutely ravishing in a pencil skirt if I do say so myself.

I didn't know how to react, so I didn't. I wasn't too sure if wearing an old over-sized, dirt-covered T-shirt counted as a dress, but I didn't draw attention to it because I knew that it make the other three girls uncomfortable to say the least if they knew completely about my past.

We walked through the large halls of the mall, receiving odd looks and whispers from the strangers the four of us walked past. Perhaps it was because there were two Avengers with us. Or the wife of the famous Iron Man. Or the stranger that seemed to prowl behind the three of them like some guard dog.

I contemplated letting my wings free as I hadn't done so since Bruce had helped seal that bullet wound from weeks ago... It was tempting, but I didn't want to draw any unwanted attention to myself, so I didn't do anything to provoke more stares than we were already receiving.

I let out a small shout when I felt Natasha yank me into a pink and black store fiddled to the brim with undergarments and rather revealing sleepwear.

"First stop, undies." She picked up an overly lacy bra and showed it to me. Only to immediately put it back down when I growled at the garment.

Wanda chuckled and grabbed something a little more modest, but still red. "Red suits you. Lace doesn't." She side-eyed Natasha.

"Why red?" I ask and she shrugs.

"What size are you?" Pepper looks right at my breasts with absolutely no shame. She squints for a moment before taking the bra from Wanda and holding it up to me. "Mm. No. This size works better, I think." She grabbed a different bra and held it up to me, comparing sizes before nodding.

"Shouldn't we be looking for 'girly things'?" I let the snark seep into my tone.

All three girls chuckle and say "True" in perfect unison.

So they all abandoned the idea of undergarments and led me to a store filled with dresses. Once inside, they all turned to me like I was in some interrogation and eyed me.

"Red?"

"No."

"Silver?"

"Maybe..."

"Yellow?"

"Absolutely not!"

"...Blue..."

Wanda grinned and walked behind racks of dresses until she got to the blue section where there were at least five different dresses per shade of blue known to human kind.

Pulling a dark, navy blue, spaghetti strap, mid-thigh dress off the rack, she turned to me.

"Too short," I grumble.

She nods clearly agreeing with me, then grabs a royal blue floor length boy-con with a slit running all the way up to the hip.

"Too revealing."

"At least try it on," Natasha pleads from behind me.

I let out an exasperated huff and took the dress, weaving through the dress racks and slipping into a change room. I put the dress on and look in the mirror. My eyes widened. If I even so much as move my leg in the wrong direction, party-goers were sure to get an eyeful.

I quickly take the dress off and throw it over the top of the door, watching it get snatched away and replaced with a different one.

The next dress was so pale that It was almost silver. Slipping it on, I looked like Cinderella. I also throw that one over the top of the door.

Next was a very pretty blue. I hold it in front of me. It wasn't too revealing. And it wasn't too poofy either- Scratch that. The neckline went down to my belly-button.

"I like the colour..." I muse, tossing it over.

I hear a very audible sigh, then another dress gets thrown, hitting me in the face.

I put it on and freeze in front of the mirror. It was the same colour as the last dress, but it was... Beautiful... It went to the floor, but would hover nicely above with a good set of heels. It had a straight neckline, spaghetti straps, corseted... It did have a slit, but nowhere near as lewd as that one dress.

A/N - This is the vibe. You can change it if you want <3

I open the door to the changing room to be met with the dropped jaws of Wanda, Natasha, and Pepper.

"Damn, girl..." Natasha gawked.

I smirk and cross my arms. "I feel like I'd look better in a suit, really."

"You could pull off both, really." Pepper smiled and whipped out her wallet, taking out Tony's credit card. "Take that off. I'll pay for it."

I let out a humorless chuckle and stepped back into the changing room, taking off the dress and getting back into my black hoodie and black cargo pants.

I had... hope for this party of Stark's. If it was anything like any of those strange movies I'd seen, I'm going to be either really pleased or really disappointed. There is no in-between.
