"If we did. Would that be a concern?"
"Ah fuck we did didn't we?" I shake my head feeling guilt pushing up.
"I take it as a yes then. No we did not."
"Please don't lie to make me to make me feel better Mr Whitner."
"I do not lie." He takes another bite followed by a sip.
"Then why ask me if we did if it would be a concern? You were waiting for me to answer before you said yes or no."
"Yes, only to see what your reaction would be. But no. We did not have sex Miss Adley. You were in no position to make an appropriate choice like that."
Ah thank fuck!
I take a deep breath feeling guilt wash away.
"But we... we had that moment... did we not even kiss?"
"No. You blacked out."
"And then you took me to your house?"
"Yes. I was not going to allow you to be alone in the state you were in."
"Oh. In your bed?"
"Guest Bedroom."
"Oh..."
I take a few bites as we sit in silence, looking at each other now and then and then at the few colorful birds splashing in the bird bath next to a big tree. I look at the rock pool, seeing the reflection making the black floor appear gray.
Wait. Is that-
"Is that sand?"
Wyatt looks at his pool and back at me.
"Yes. Black sand. Imported from one of the islands."
"Is it a salt rock pool?"
"Yes."
"Wow... that is magnificent."
"Indeed. Thank you."
I look around again and my eye catches an old white grand piano in the far room with a huge open arch on the far end of the house to the right.
"Do you play?"
He looks in the direction of the piano and back at me.
"I do."
"What do you not do or own?"
He laughs softly and finishes his last bite of food.
"A few things actually." He continues to smile.
"Oh really... like what?"
"A wife... to start with."
Ahh...
"I'm... so why do you not have a wife?"
"Like I said, I have not yet found a suitable companion."
"And what makes a suitable companion in your eyes?"
His eyebrows arches slightly.
"Ah come on. Don't tell me someone like me."
"Very well."
Ah no....
"Seriously!?"
His stare deepens.
"No. Mr Whitner, I can assure you that I am no wife material. I am not even close to being girlfriend material. I just fuck-I mean screw things up. Literally."
"Do you always sell yourself short?"
"No, but it's the truth. I mean I can't even help Zack help Luke and Liam because of what I did."
"Do you want to assist them?"
"Well, yeah of course. They or more Luke was there for me when I needed someone the most. And apparently, they cared for me a lot. So what kind of person would I be not to help them? But I don't know if they will even be willing to talk to me let alone look at me."
I take my last bite and push my plate to the side while wiping my mouth with a napkin.
"There is no harm in trying."
Hmmm... he has a point.
"Yeah... okay... I'll give Zack a call when I get home."
"You are welcome to call him now."
"My phone died and besides I think it's best if I keep it private you know."
"Of course."
Wyatt stands up and gathers both our plates.
"What are your plans for today Miss Adley?"
"I have no idea. I did not think I was going to be sitting at your house having breakfast the next day. And you can call me Sage, if you'd like?"
"I believe you want to keep our relationship professional?"
Huh?
"Yeah? Calling me by my name is not professional?"
"Your first name is personal."
"Personal? Do you see us right now? Pretty personal won't you say?
"Hm. You are right. My apologies for making advances on our relationship against your will Miss Adley. I would see to it that it does not happen again." He places the plates back down on the table.
"Oh, no I don't... I mean you don't... you are not... I don't want..." I stop feeling my words forming a ball of vomit.
He stands tall, still a fixed gaze on me.
"Then what is it that you want?"
