The next morning Seraphina walked into the Great Hall dressed in her uniform for the start of term. She sighed pushing past a group of second-year Slytherin's as she walked over to where Snape was standing with their class schedules. Seraphina was exhausted and slightly hungover, not the best combination for the first day. She scanned the Slytherin table for her friends and Blaise, Draco, and Daphne in their usual spot. She got in line behind a group of third-years waiting to receive their schedules and sighed as the previous night played over in her head.
She had a great time with Evan but didn't sleep much and only got back to her dormitory three hours prior. Rosier promised they would meet up later and plan a time and place for their first official date. Just the thought of it made her giddy. She had spent so much time obsessing and writing letters to him all summer that the thought of being able to see him every day had her practically jumping for joy.
"Miss Avery," Severus said handing her schedule to her without another word.
"Thank you, Professor." She said politely, one thing that she always appreciated about Snape was that he never asked them questions or tried to make small talk with them. Neither of them had to pretend that they were interested in how their summer holiday had gone. Seraphina made her way over to her friends as she glanced through her lessons for the week. She grimaced as she sat down across from Daphne and Draco.
"Morning." She said putting her schedule down.
"I'm surprised you got up on time. " Daphne smirked taking a sip of her juice, Draco looked over at her and chuckled a little.
"First day, Snape would have my head if I wasn't," Seraphina said as she grabbed two pieces of toast.
"How are you feeling?" Blaise asked with an eyebrow raised.
"I'll be better if I can keep this down." She said as she put jam on her toast, her head was pounding.
"I feel like someone hit me over the head with a bludger," Seraphina added before taking a bite of her toast.
"You and us both," Lorenzo said sitting down next to her, and gestured to Theodore and Mattheo who looked more pissed off than usual as he sat next to Blaise. Theodore on the other hand, sat down without a word to her in his usual spot beside her, even giving so much of a nod in her direction.
"I really don't want to talk about last night," Theodore said as he took a sip of water, he eyed the food on the table suspiciously. It was clear that out of everyone he was the most hungover. He looked like he might be sick at just the sight of the table.
"Then let's talk about how we're stuck with Gryffindor for Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, and Transfiguration," Seraphina grumbled glancing over at the Gryffindor table. She had been praying all summer that after the third task of the Triwizard tournament last year they wouldn't be stuck with Potter.
Seraphina looked away from the table and glanced at Mattheo who was pretending like he didn't hear anything as he poked at his food. He Who Must Not Be Named was a forbidden topic for all of them with Mattheo being around and mentioning Potter was toying with that line. It felt like a dark cloud that was looming above all their heads about to downpour at any second. Now that he was back, there was a sense of foreboding dread that they were all trying to suppress in hopes that it would go away.
This was especially true for Mattheo and Seraphina. She could count on one hand the number of deep meaningful conversations that she and Mattheo had with each other, one of them being the conversation they had after Cedric's funeral. They had only expressed how truly terrified they both were if the Dark Lord was back and it wasn't Potter and Dumbledore trying to great mass hysteria If it was true it was only a matter of time before he came for Mattheo but that also meant that it was only a matter of time before Credence Avery also made an appearance. Seraphina never dwelled on that for too long for her own sanity.
