If you asked Marlene what her relationship with Liam was like, she'd say it was okay. The two hadn't really hung out alone together and seemed to only really hang out when Frank was around.
But when Liam comes back from yet another foster home and...
However Frank and Liam did not miss it and shared a disgusted look. It was strange seeing Marlene looking so loved up. Marlene, as gentle and soft as she was when someone tended to be upset, usually looked quite mean from a distance. Especially if you didn't know her.
"Beanbags." Toby explained, his eyes wide. "Beanbags falling from the sky."
Marlene and Jack shared a guilty look. "Well, that's definitely... strange?" Jack suggested, setting the game up.
"You want to sell stuff fast?" Liam said loudly, changing the topic. "There's only one place."
"The Internet." Frank finished for him.
"You know it." He agreed.
Marlene looked towards the pair. "That's your plan?" She asked. "Your going to sell Tracy's books?" She laughed. "Cause that's going to end well."
"It will, it will." Liam reassured her, his eyes remaining on the computer. "Cherry's farm books, signed first editions always wanted." He read aloud, looking confused. "First editions. Toby, what are first editions?"
Toby and Marlene shared a deadpaned look. "First editions are printed first, the first batch." Toby explained.
"So Tracy's books, they're first editions?" Liam asked, looking hopeful.
Marlene snorted. "Yeah, and probably the only editions." She said, causing the boys to chuckle.
"Listen I've got to go." Jack said, looking down at his phone. "It's my mum, she wants me home now."
Marlene nodded with a smile. "I'll walk you out." She said, taken his hand and leading him towards the front door.
"I enjoyed spending time with you, today." Jack told her, tucking her hair behind her ear.
Marlene smiled shyly. "Me too."
Leaning in, Jack kissed her, pulling away shortly after. "I'll see you tomorrow." He said before heading off.
Marlene made her way back into the living room, on the hunt for Frank and Liam. Neither were there. Eventually, she found them in the garden.
Marlene frowned when she noticed the disappointed looks on their faces. "What happened?" She asked, sitting down on the bench, in front of the beanbags the two boys were sitting on.
To her left she noticed Tracy's books, signed in Franks handwriting.
"The website, you need to be eighteen." Liam explained. "They want post codes, bank account details, credit card numbers. They've thought of everything just to stop us from using their stupid system."
Frank looked up confused. "So, what do we do?" Frank asked. He too had noticed that Liam was the most upset about this.
Liam frowned. "I just wanted something of my own for once, you know." He said crumpling the paper in his hand and throwing it. "Something cool."
Marlene and Frank shared a look, there wasn't much they could do to help. They were essentially in the same position.
"I'll get that for you." Frank said, referring to the tv.
"Yeah." Liam scoffed. "When you're eighteen." He said. Marlene put her hand on franks shoulder, noticing the defeated look on his face.
"I'm going to get a drink, you two want one?" Liam asked. The two nodded their head. Marlene watched him go, a sympathetic look on her face.
