Marlene nodded her head, leaning in with everyone else as they watched Toby break the egg, hoping it would be cooked to perfection.

Scraping the top off, the boy expected it before smiling. "Perfect." He reached for the salt shaker, tipping it upside down only for the lid to come off, covering the egg In salt and wiping Toby's smile away in the process.

Marlene winced, feeling bad for the boy. Things never seemed to go right when it came to him.

"I'll do you another one." Tracy said, ruffling his hair and making her way back to the oven.

Toby shook his head. "What's the point?" He sighed. "I told you, from the day I was born, I'm jinxed."

Marlene grinned at him. "We all feel like that sometimes Tobes, but you can't be that badly jinxed if you ended up here. There's a lot worse care homes you could have ended up in."

"Marley, will you play with me and Jeff today?" Harry asked, putting Jeff in front of the girls face.

"I can't today, Harry I've got plans." She frowned at the boy. "But I promise once I get back I'll read you and Jeff a bedtime story, and we can play tomorrow."

Sapphire looked to the girl. "You meeting jack today then?" She asked, excited for the girl.

Marlene nodded her head. "Yeah, he says he's got something to ask me." She grinned excitedly. "I should go and get ready, wish me luck!"

Marlene made her way to the park where Jack had told her to meet him. She had curled her hair, wearing a little extra makeup, a black skirt and tights, and a white knitted jumper to keep her warm in the autumn air.

She always tried to look a little nicer when she knew she was seeing Jack. She hoped it would make him like her more.

"Hey!" Jack called catching her attention. He was in a pair on jeans and a hoodie. A smile on his face as he approached the girl. "You look really nice." He said, taken her in completely. "You look beautiful, actually." He corrected, rubbing his neck embarrassed.

Marlene breathed out a laugh. "Thank you." She said as the two began to walk. "Where are we going?" She asked, realizing she didn't actually know.

"I thought we could go get ice cream?" Jack told her, seemingly nervous. "You mentioned how much you had been wanting it recently, so I figured we could go there."

Marlene smiled widely, blushing because he would remember something so small. "Ice cream sounds great."

The two walked together, making small talk until they got to the ice cream shop. Jack had told Marlene to go and find them a table whilst he ordered.
