Mordecai's dad, William is at his home office. As he drinks coffee, his phone rings, and he answers. "Well, if it isn't my favorite and only son." He said. "Uh, hey, Dad. I'm thinking about coming by the house with my girlfriend so I can grab one of my old mix tapes." Mordecai said. "Girlfriend, eh? I'm sure your mom will love that." William said. "That's kind of the problem. She gets weird when I bring girls home. It's embarrassing." Mordecai said. "Wait. You've brought girls home? How many times?" Mordecai makes a stoic, unamused face.
"Was it zero times? Anyway, I know Mom can go overboard sometimes, but I'm not sure what you want me to do about that." William said. "Just... Is there a time I can come by when Mom won't be home?" Mordecai asked. "Well, she does have Punchercise tomorrow night, but—" William said. "Look, I know it's messed up, but please don't tell her we're coming." Mordecai said. "Uhp, uhp! I can't lie to that woman. Haven't in 25 years. Except if she asks if she could still pass as a college student. Then you lie. Otherwise, no lies!" William said. "Just don't tell her!"
THE NEXT DAY
Mordecai and Anna enter his parents' house. "Dad, we're here!" Mordecai shouted. "Ah, there's my boy!" Mordecai and William share a hug. "Ha. Hi, Dad." Mordecai said. "And you must be Anna. I'm William." William said. "Nice to meet you, sir." Anna said. "Please, call me Will. "Sir" is my boss's name. Unfortunately, Mordecai's mom isn't around at the moment." William said. "Mom's not here?! Darn it! Life's so unfair! Oh, well. Next time or whatever. Anyway, I'm just gonna run up and grab that tape so we can—" Mordecai said with fake disappointment.
The front door suddenly bursts open. "Aah!" Mordecai's mom enters wearing exercise clothes and carrying dumbbells. "Where's my little champion?" She asked. "Mom!" Mordecai's mom runs up and hugs him. "You're home!" Mordecai said. "Of course I am. You don't think I'd miss my handsome gent coming home, do you? And when your dad told me you were bringing a new sweetie over, I decided to take the afternoon Punchercise class so I could run right home to see you two." Mordecai glares at William, who then shrugs . "25 years, no lies." He replies. Hilary looks at Anna. "And you!
Wow! Gorgeous!" She said. "Yup. I'm smart and funny too." Anna said. "And modest. She's the whole package." Hilary puts an arm around Mordecai. "Mordy, tell me you and this bombshell will be staying for dinner." She said. "Uh, actually, we were—" he began. "Pshaw! I insist! Besides, I already whipped up something special before Punchercise. You two sit tight. It'll be ready in a jiff." As Hilary passes by him, she playfully kicks him in the butt. "Can't wait." Mordecai and Anna go upstairs. "Sorry my mom's so weird." Mordecai said. "She's totally sweet." Anna said.
They enter Mordecai's old bedroom. "Here's my room." Mordecai said. "Whoa. Yup. Yup. You can tell a lot about a man from the room he grew up in." Anna said. "Anyway, I think my mix tapes are in the closet." Mordecai opens his closet door and fishes around for the mix tapes, but he doesn't find them. "Hmm, they aren't here." He said. Hilary calls out from downstairs. "Mordecai! Mordecai, I need you right now!" She shouted. "Ugh! I'll see what she wants." In the kitchen, Hilary is cutting carrots. "Mordecai!" She shouted. He comes down the stairs behind her.
"What? What is it, Mom?" He asked. "Is Anna a vegetarian?" She asked. "That's what you called me down for? No, Mom. No, she isn't." He replied. "Oh, good! She can have some of my prized meatloaf." Hilary said. "Can you just be normal?" Mordecai asked. "Normal?" She asked. "Yeah, normal! Ever heard of it? Let's not go nuts here, okay?" Mordecai asked. "Don't worry. Let me show you the dessert." Mordecai's mom shows him a cream pie topped with berries; the berries spell out Anna's name and Mordecai gasps. "See, the berries spell out—" Mordecai quickly eats the dessert with his hands.
"Hey! Stop! What are you doing?!" Hilary asked. "Sorry. It just looked so good, you know? I couldn't wait. You've still got it, Mom." Mordecai said with his mouth full. "You're lucky I have... a backup!" Hilary shows him a gelatin in Anna's likeness; it has grapes for hair, pineapple slices for eyes, and a dot of whipped cream for a nose. "Think she'll like it?" Mordecai's mouth hangs open in shock. "It was hard to get all her features. Gelatin is such an unforgiving medium. But luckily, I got a bunch of her photos off the internet." Mordecai races up the stairs and into his room. "Anna! Anna! We got-- We gotta go!" He shouted. "What? Why?" She asked. "We just gotta! Before—" Hilary calls from downstairs. "Dinner's ready, kids!" Mordecai sighs. "Never mind." He said.
