Chapter 1:
The evening was calm, the sun gently setting behind the horizon, casting a soft, warm glow over the house Taehyung had worked so hard to prepare. Every corner sparkled as if trying to mimic the excitement that bubbled inside him. Jungkook had been away for nearly a month on business, and finally, today was the day he'd return. Taehyung's fingers trembled with anticipation as he placed the last decorative piece on the dining table - a bouquet of wildflowers, Jungkook's favorite. He wanted everything to be perfect, just as Jungkook deserved.
Taehyung had meticulously cleaned every inch of their home, moving furniture and rearranging decorations, just to make sure it looked different, better, warmer than it ever had before. He wanted Jungkook to come back to something that felt special, that would remind him of what they had built together. The house wasn't just a house - it was their sanctuary, their shared home, a place where Taehyung believed their love would always thrive.
But beneath his excitement, there was a quiet, gnawing fear - a whisper in his heart that had grown louder and more insistent over the past few weeks. It was the same fear he always carried, the fear that stemmed from his inability to give Jungkook what he truly wanted: a family. An omega's primary role, as society had hammered into him, was to bear children. But despite their efforts, Taehyung couldn't get pregnant. It wasn't for lack of trying. He had seen doctors, taken all sorts of treatments, prayed to every deity he could think of, but nothing worked.
Jungkook, his alpha, always consoled him. "It's okay, Tae," he'd say, his hands warm and reassuring on Taehyung's shoulders. "I love you, not because of what you can or can't do. You're enough for me." And Taehyung had believed him, or at least, he had tried to. But his heart ached with the knowledge that Jungkook's parents didn't feel the same way.
They had never approved of Taehyung, not from the moment Jungkook had introduced him. "He's an orphan," his mother had whispered coldly when she thought Taehyung wasn't listening. "How can he raise children if he didn't have a family himself? He can't even get pregnant, Jungkook. You need to think about your future."
Jungkook had fought with them time and time again, defending Taehyung with a fierceness that made him feel safe. But the words still cut deep. It didn't matter how many times Jungkook said he loved him, Taehyung couldn't shake the feeling that he was somehow incomplete, a failure as an omega.
He pushed those thoughts aside as he adjusted the flowers one last time, forcing a smile. Tonight wasn't about any of that. Tonight was about welcoming Jungkook home, showing him how much he had been missed, and perhaps even reigniting the hope that their love was strong enough to conquer everything.
The sound of tires crunching on gravel made Taehyung's heart leap. He rushed to the window, eyes wide with anticipation as he saw Jungkook's car pull up in the driveway. His hands shook as he smoothed down his shirt, hoping that Jungkook would notice how much effort he had put into making everything perfect. He wanted tonight to be the night they'd talk about their future, the night they'd push past all the doubts and make plans together - just the two of them.
But as the car door opened, Taehyung's breath caught in his throat.
Jungkook stepped out first, but he wasn't alone. A woman followed him, her hand on her belly and other hand resting possessively on Jungkook's arm. She smiled up at him, a smile that made Taehyung's stomach twist into knots. The way she leaned into Jungkook, the way she looked at him, it was as though she had taken something that belonged to Taehyung.
Jungkook's scent hit him like a wave - but it wasn't just his scent. It was mixed with hers, the unmistakable smell of a bonded pair. Jungkook had mated her.
Time seemed to freeze as Taehyung stood there in the doorway, his world crashing down around him. He couldn't move, couldn't breathe. His eyes were locked on Jungkook, searching for some kind of explanation, some kind of reassurance that this wasn't what it seemed to be.
But Jungkook's expression wasn't one of guilt or regret. Instead, there was a sort of resigned sadness, as though he had been dreading this moment but knew it was inevitable.
"Tae..." Jungkook's voice was soft, almost apologetic, but it wasn't enough.
Taehyung felt his heart shatter, the pieces scattering inside his chest like shards of glass. His mouth went dry as he whispered, "Why...?"
Jungkook took a step toward him, but the woman didn't move. She stood there, her hand still on his arm, her gaze unreadable. "It was a mistake," Jungkook said, his voice trembling slightly. "I didn't mean for this to happen. I love you, Tae, you know that. This-" he gestured to the woman, "it's complicated."
"Complicated?" Taehyung's voice cracked. "You... you mated her, Jungkook. She's pregnant. How... how could you...?"
Jungkook closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "I didn't want this. I was drunk, I wasn't thinking. It just... happened. And now... she's pregnant. I have to take responsibility."
Taehyung's knees felt weak, and he gripped the doorframe for support. His mind was spinning, unable to process what he was hearing. "You cheated on me," he whispered, the words tasting bitter on his tongue.
Jungkook shook his head quickly. "No, Tae, it's not like that. It was a mistake. I swear, I never wanted to hurt you. I love you. You're my mate. You're the one I want to be with."
"Then why...?" Taehyung's voice trailed off, his throat closing up with emotion. Tears blurred his vision as he looked at Jungkook, silently begging him for an answer that could make this hurt less.
"I don't know," Jungkook admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But we can fix this. We can still be a family. She's agreed to stay with us... both of us. You'll finally get to be a parent, Tae. Isn't that what you've always wanted?"
Taehyung's breath caught in his throat. It was what he had always wanted. He had dreamed of raising a family with Jungkook, of creating a life together that was full of love and happiness. But not like this. Not with another omega, not with the knowledge that Jungkook had betrayed him in the worst possible way.
"I don't..." His voice cracked again, and he swallowed the lump in his throat. "I don't know if I can do this, Jungkook. I don't know if I can stay."
Jungkook's eyes widened in panic, and he rushed forward, grabbing Taehyung's hands. "Please, Tae, don't say that. Don't leave me. I need you. We can make this work, I promise. You're my mate. I love you."
The words were like a lifeline, and for a moment, Taehyung let himself believe them. He let himself imagine a future where this could somehow be okay, where they could find a way to be happy again. But deep down, he knew that things would never be the same.
"I can't"
But jungkook pulled him in hug, "Everything will be the same Taehyung. Nothing will change. We will be a family together. I promise"
Taehyung doesn't want this but his stupid heart was not ready to give up.
So, he does what his heart want. He nodded slowly, his voice barely audible as he whispered, "Okay."
