"It... it's off now."

Yeonjun perched a brow.

"What do you mean by off?"

"I mean that... there is no need for a marriage anymore."

Yeonjun was shocked.

Shocked to another extent.

"Does that mean—"

"Now that my parents' company is bankrupt and shutting down, your parents have no more means of being associated with their business. That means both of us are free to live our lives differently from this day on if we choose to."

It was painfully silent.

Both of them had completely different thoughts.

Beomgyu gathered all his courage and took a deep breath, ready to finally be honest with him.

"Yeonjun—"

"So this means..." Yeonjun began.

Beomgyu glanced at him, worried at the change of tone in his voice.

One he hasn't heard in months.

"This means 'what'?"

"It means..."

A (not so genuine) smile spread across Yeonjun's face, the realization of reality hitting him.

"I can be with Soobin again."

Beomgyu expected those words.

Deep down knew that this was the reaction he was going to get, and that this was going to happen.

But never did he think that those words would cut through his heart like a knife.

Yeonjun meanwhile was caught up in himself, the gears of his mind overdosing on newfound glee.

I can go back to Soobin now.

We can go back to the way it used to be before we parted ways.

Oh my gosh, I can't wait to tell him that!

All the previous thoughts that Yeonjun had, that he might actually love Beomgyu, faded into (almost) nothing.

It was this moment where he realized that he'll always, only love Soobin, the one who kept him alive through hard times.

He strongly believed that Soobin was the one right for him.

And yes.

Yeonjun was indeed incredibly selfish for thinking this.

While a part of him knew something else.

Something about Beomgyu.

Something he chose to ignore because of how self-centered his mind was, even after all these months of being together in the same house.

"I'll go pack my bags now, and then I'll call Soobin," Yeonjun excitedly said, running towards their bedroom.

Leaving Beomgyu all to himself.

Beomgyu was close to breaking down in tears, memories of the past few months flashing through his mind, now tainted in the color of heartbreak.

Why.......

He had truly fallen in love with Yeonjun.

And he was all too late.

Suddenly, he remembered something rather faint, yet so vivid. Words spoken by Taehyun back when the scandal happened.

"How would you feel if you found out that they could possibly be in love with someone else, other than you? Wouldn't you feel betrayed too?!"

Beomgyu only felt betrayal.

He felt betrayed because he thought, and believed, that Yeonjun did have a soft spot for him. That he may give him a chance— he tricked him into that thought.

But no, he was still so incredibly selfish.

The pain started to shift into anger, and Beomgyu wanted to do what he always wanted to do since they first met years ago: punch Yeonjun.

Yeonjun at that moment came out of their room, having already packed all of his personal belongings.

Beomgyu glared darkly at him, and balled his fists.

But then he saw Yeonjun's face.

He saw the happy smile crossing his lips, knowing that he will return to the one person he truly loves.

And at that moment, Beomgyu realized.

One of them will be selfish, and the other won't.

He'll... never be as happy as he is with Soobin if he is with me. I... I gotta let him go.

The truth was painful, and the scars were cutting deeper into Beomgyu's heart as he came face to face with that reality.

"I'll get going now; I'll see you around at university Beomgyu," Yeonjun smiled.

He started walking towards the door.

"Don't go," Beomgyu quietly said.

Yeonjun unlocked the door, and he turned around to face Beomgyu, a soft smile on his face.

"Bye," he said.

And then the door closed, Yeonjun disappearing from Beomgyu's sight for the rest of his life.

The moment the door shut, Beomgyu collapsed onto his knees.

He couldn't hold it in anymore and just bursted into tears.

He held his face in his hands as he sobbed, bawled, and cried, all at once.

The pain in his heart was too unbearable.

"Hyung... I love you. I love you so much," he cried.

Even in his months of anger and disbelief, astonishment at how Yeonjun just left so easily... he still chose to say him words of lovingness and kindness.

Little did Beomgyu know that on the other side of the door, tears were also running down Yeonjun's face, the same pained expression on his face.

He still heard Beomgyu say those three words.
