"Pick up your stuff."
He forces a cold, sarcastic tone into his voice.
"What are you doing, just sitting there? Get up and pick your crap up, you're blocking the hallway"
Beomgyu flinches at Yeonjun's harsh words, looking down. He's quick to pick up his things and scramble to his feet.
"S-sorry...."
Yeonjun doesn't say anything, just stands there and watches as Beomgyu picks up his things. He can feel Jiwoo staring at him, observing his every move. He knows he has to be careful, to not let on that there's anything different going on. Yeonjun hates himself for speaking so coldly to the boy, but he has no choice, not right now anyway.
When Beomgyu has got all of his things gathered, he stands there, still looking down at the ground and avoiding eye contact. Jiwoo is still chuckling beside Damon.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Move." He snaps, his voice edged with annoyance.
Beomgyu flinches again, looking like a wounded puppy. He opens his mouth to speak, but closes it again, knowing that anything he says will only make things worse. He darts past the boys, keeping his eyes firmly on the ground and heading in the direction of his classroom.
Yeonjun watches as he walks away, his heart clenching at the sight of the boy's fearful expression. He knows he has to act cold and uninterested, but watching Beomgyu run away like that is killing him.
"What a dumbass..." Jiwoo snickered behind him. "Did you see the look on his face? He looked like he was about to cry or something! What a wimp."
Yeonjun forces a small laugh, even though he wants nothing more than to punch Jiwoo in the face right now.
"Yeah, he's such a crybaby. It's pathetic really. I mean, it's not like he isn't used to this by now, we do it every single day, when is he gonna get a backbone."
"Right? I don't know how someone can be so wimpy and scared all the time like that. It's like he's never learned how to fight back. Not only is he weak, he's just an easy target." Jiwoo continues, chuckling to himself.
Yeonjun clenches his fist in frustration, hating the fact that he has to agree with Jiwoo. He wants nothing more than to tell him to shut up, to tell him that Beomgyu is a good person and doesn't deserve it. But he knows he can't do that, not without raising suspicion.
"Yeah, I know. I mean, look at him, he's practically begging to be bullied. He doesn't even try to defend himself. It's like he's just given up."
The two continue to their classroom.
As the class goes by, he can't help but wonder if Beomgyu is okay. He knows the boy is shy and timid, and he can't help but worry that he probably feels upset and humiliated from the incident. Again, he knows he can't do anything about it, and it's driving him insane.
He keeps sneaking glances at the clock, counting down the minutes until class is over. He needs to talk to Beomgyu, to make sure he's okay. But at the same time, he doesn't know how. He can't just walk up to him and act like he cares. Everyone already thinks he's the mean football captain who picks on nerds.
Jiwoo notices Yeonjun's restless behaviour.
"What's gotten into you? You've been staring at the clock all class, Are you that excited to get out of here or something?"
"What?" Yeonjun snaps, realizing he's been caught staring. "Oh...yeah, I guess. I just have a lot on my mind, that's all. You know, football game and stuff"
"Ah, right. Fair enough. I bet coach has got you running drills all night, huh? He's probably working your ass off to make sure we win the game." Jiwoo grins.
