Beomgyu's father grunts in response, taking the plate of food from him. He starts eating the pasta, his eyes fixed on his son. He knows how much he impacts the boy's confidence, he feeds off the fact that Beomgyu is just a timid ball of anxiety.
"Now get out of my sight," his father says.
Beomgyu flinches at the order, and a pang of shame once again hits him. He knew his father never wanted to see his worthless face unless it was to serve him or clean up after his messes.
"Y-yes father..."
Beomgyu then quickly turns and walks back into the kitchen to clean up. He tries his best to hold in any tears, not wanting to be called weak and a crybaby, his father always hated tears.
As Beomgyu washes the dishes, he can't help but let his mind wander. Thoughts of school and the other students there fill his head. He wishes he could be like them, happy and carefree, surrounded by people who care about him, being able to socialise without being terrified of saying something wrong. He feels tears prick his eyes as his thoughts drift further and further.
He suddenly snaps back to reality at the sound of his father's voice.
"Boy!" His father calls out, slurring his words.
Beomgyu quickly composes himself, drying his hands before hurrying out to respond to his father.
"Y-yes f-father..?"
His father is still sitting on the sofa, a now empty bottle in his hand. He looks at his son with a look full of contempt.
"Get me another bottle, boy" He commands, holding out the now-empty bottle.
"Y-yes father" Beomgyu responds quickly, taking the empty bottle from his father and making his way into the kitchen to grab a new bottle. He knew the routine, his father usually drank many bottles of alcohol every night. And it always fell on Beomgyu to get them for him so he could continue drinking.
It soon approaches midnight, and Beomgyus's father is now passed out on the sofa.
He can barely keep his eyes open, exhaustion from having to do all the house chores while his father sits and drinks is finally taking a hit. But despite being shattered and desperately wanting to sleep, he slowly cleans up every mess his father made while he was drinking.
After doing the last bit of cleaning, Beomgyu slowly walks over to his father who is still passed out on the sofa. He has to wake him up and get him into bed. Normally Beomgyu would avoid waking his father as much as possible, not wanting to even be near him. But he knows that if he leaves the man to sleep on the sofa all night he will wake up with an even worse temper.
"F-father..?" Beomgyu whispers quietly. As expected his father doesn't stir, he is far too drunk to be woken up so easily.
Beomgyu takes a small breath before reaching out and shaking his father's shoulder, praying the drunk man doesn't get angry being woken up.
"Father.." He says a bit louder, continuing to shake his father.
His father groans in annoyance at being woken up. He slowly starts to stir, eventually waking up. He looks around and locks eyes with his son, a familiar scowl forming on his face.
"What the hell do you want?" he slurs.
"You..y-you should go to bed..." Beomgyu responds in a shaky voice, trying to sound as gentle as possible to not anger the drunk man.
His father lets out a grumble but begrudgingly gets up from the sofa, stumbling a bit on the spot from all of the drinks he had consumed. He looks at Beomgyu with a sneer.
"You make sure you finish any more cleaning before going to bed" He mutters before stumbling off down the hallway to his room.
Beomgyu nods obediently, watching his father walk away. He stays still until he hears the sound of the bedroom door closing, signalling that the father is in bed and hopefully won't be waking up again. He then lets out a long sigh, feeling too tired to do any more cleaning. So instead he makes his way to his own room.
He quietly closes his bedroom door, collapsing down onto the bed. The tiredness finally sets in fully and he can hardly keep his eyes open. Despite being completely exhausted Beomgyu finds it difficult to fall asleep, thoughts still swimming in his head. But eventually, after fighting a long battle, Beomgyu drifts off to sleep.
