Sat on the roof like usual, Mina and Jake were eating lunch quieter than usual since both had heavy topics weighing on their minds.

They took turns glancing at each other, wracked with nerves and feelings of fear. Whoever spoke first could change everything.

"I wanted to say something-,"

"I need to tell you something-," The two said at the same time, awkwardly laughing with each other afterward.

"Sorry, what did you want to say?" Jake asked her.

"No, no, um... you first." She replied nervously.

"I'm...," he started.

'I'm? What's he planning to say? He's never been this nervous before."

"My family is uh...," he trailed off. Jake felt horrible, he didn't want to ruin things between them, with the fact that he was moving but what else could he do?

Leave then never tell Mina about it?

"If you're not ready we can do this another time-,"

"My family's moving back to Australia!" He exclaimed, his eyes closed tight as he was scared to see the look on her face.

Confused, worried, and scared, it was as if the world was ending for Mina, hearing this. The only friend she had in high school, her anchor, and crush was leaving.

As Jake slowly opened his eyes he could see the shocked look on his friend's face and the tears that started welling up in her eyes, threatening to spill over.

"No, hey, hey, look at me it's gonna be okay." He tried consoling her with a hug and his words, but it didn't stop her tears from falling.

"We can always call, text, email, or whatever." He pulled away from the hug, wiping the tears from her face as they fell.

"I don't think we can... when my mom finds out about this... she'll make me block your number, accounts, emails..., and anything else she can think of." She struggled to say due to her cries.

"Then... we can send letters, you can tell your mom that you signed up for a penpal thing at school or something." He proposed.

"Writing letters? What is this the 1800s?" She replied, slightly laughing and drying her face with her sleeve.

"Come on it'll be fun, and we gotta stay in touch somehow." The boy pleaded, his accent sounding strong.

"Ok, letters it is." She smiled weakly.

As soon as they finished talking the bell rang, and the two began to clean up their lunches.

Jake stood and headed towards the door but stopped halfway, and turned back to see if Mina was coming.

"You go on ahead, I have a few more things to put away." She assured him, watching him nod and walk back inside.

The moment she heard the door close she sighed and leaned against the railing behind her, looking up at the sky and all its clouds.

"I should've gone first."

Hello again

This chapter is pretty short because I just wanted to focus on Jake telling Mina he's leaving 😢

Plus there aren't very many details in between I thought of adding...

He'll fly out next chapter so be ready for that

I hope you liked this chapter and enjoyed the next.
