I wonder how long I've been sitting here, staring at this book in my hands. This book, the cover was pink and purple ombre, and had a single pink ribbon attached to its spine as a bookmark.
A single bead of tear trickled down my cheek, almost dropping on its pages, but I quickly wiped it away.
After all, this is a memoir of someone's love. I had kept it since she was no longer here.
It has been 5 years now.
Einar, it's been five years since you left us.
I turned the book to its first page. Her messy writing filled up the whole book, with a few empty pages and doodles in between. Almost all of it, was about someone she loved.
I flipped through the book once again. A page caught my eye. A sentence made me realize.
"When I die, I want either you or Maya to keep it. If neither of you are alive then burn it."
I'm Maya. 20 years old. This was a diary made solely devoted on the feelings of my old friend, my twin, my different parents sister, towards her unrequited love, written like a love letter that will never reach its reader.
But I think I want to make it a reality.
I wiped away my tears with the corner of my sleeve and closed the book. This book, this memoir of unconditional adoration, it wasn't for me to keep.
I shall pass it to the one who it was written to.
