Ellie strode down the hallway with a bandage starkly marking where Yunseok's hand had landed. The sting of the slap still resonated through her, but it was the seething anger and confusion inside her that drove each step. Lost in the whirlwind of her thoughts, she collided with Jae-i, whose determined gaze halted her like an unexpected storm.
"Can we talk?" Jae-i's voice cut through the silence, carrying an urgency that demanded attention. Ellie found herself nodding silently, following Jae-i to a secluded cabin nearby.
The atmosphere was charged with tension as they took their seats—Jae-i on the couch, Ellie on a chair, each position symbolizing the distance and divide between them.
"What do you want to talk about?" Ellie's voice rang out, guarded yet laced with the raw edge of her emotions.
Jae-i rose abruptly, crossing the room to stand squarely in front of Ellie. "I'll tell you what you want to know about that night," she began, her words measured and deliberate. "Woojin's birthday party... Inhan couldn't take the bullying anymore. He ran out, and that's when it happened."
Ellie's gaze fell to the floor, her mind racing with memories and suspicions. "So he was tortured first, pushed to the point where he fled into the night. Was it them? Yunseok or Kim Rian?" Her words were a mix of accusation and desperation, searching for answers that Jae-i held tightly.
"You're not telling me anything!" The frustration exploded from Ellie in a sudden shout, her chest heaving with each heavy breath as she struggled to contain the flood of emotions inside her.
"Ellie, listen," Jae-i implored, her voice softening with urgency. "I know you blame Rian, but it wasn't him. You know him, Ellie. You know who he really is."
A bitter scoff escaped Ellie's lips, filled with anguish and betrayal. "It was me. If we hadn't been friends, Inhan wouldn't have been a target. So blame me, Jae-i, not Rian. I can't bear to see Rian suffer for this," she shot back, pulling away as if Jae-i's touch burned her.
"You're selfish," Ellie accused, her voice trembling with raw pain. "You left him, pushed me towards him, and now I'm trapped in this mess. You're selfish!"
The room seemed to shrink with the weight of their unspoken truths and unresolved grievances. Ellie turned abruptly, storming out of the cabin, leaving Jae-i to wrestle with her own guilt .
