As everyone settled comfortably in the bus, Ellie decided to sit next to the class president, Taesoo, who was quietly engrossed in his own book. As they reached the hotel, the students excitedly began to disembark.
"Wow," Ellie exclaimed as she stepped off the bus.
"Pretty nice hotel, right?" Taesoo responded with a chuckle.
"Only for royalty," Ellie replied, making Taesoo laugh. He found himself enjoying Ellie's presence. Just then, In-ha tapped Ellie's shoulder, smiling warmly at them.
"Do you think I deserve this?" Ellie asked In-ha excitedly. "I mean, yes, right? I took leave from work just to enjoy this little vacation."
In-ha ruffled her hair playfully, earning a playful kick from Ellie. "Fucker, grab my suitcase," she said, then ran towards Taesoo, placing her arm around his shoulder. "I'm so excited—pool and hot springs," she hummed to herself, causing Taesoo to smile.
As they walked, Taesoo began to speak. "Just act like this is a normal trip with a normal school. Here's your room," he said, stopping in front of a door. "This is more tucked away, better for the scholarship students," he added, looking at In-ha.
"What about me?" Ellie asked, sounding like a child.
Taesoo stopped in his tracks and looked at his records. "Let me just finish with In-ha first," he said tiredly, noting Ellie's boundless energy. Turning back to In-ha, he said, "Just sign up for the sessions you want. My advice: go for the popular ones."
"Thanks, man," In-ha replied, smiling. Taesoo paused and looked ahead to see Ellie petting a kitten she had found.
"This doesn't make friends," Taesoo said, his gaze still on Ellie. "Just don't talk to me in front of others. The reason they call me Moss is that they barely notice me."
"What kind of shitty name is that?" In-ha retorted, but Taesoo stopped him.
"I don't mind," he said. "I worked hard for a long time to earn that nickname. I only befriend Ellie because she's different. She doesn't care about the social hierarchy."
"And I'm not about to ruin it," Taesoo concluded, walking ahead. Ellie, oblivious to the conversation, continued playing with the kitten, her carefree nature a stark contrast to the complexities of the social dynamics around her.
Inside the hotel, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as students marveled at the luxurious surroundings. Ellie, In-ha, and Taesoo made their way to their rooms, Taesoo giving them tips and advice along the way.
"You know, you guys should really take advantage of the facilities here," Taesoo suggested. "There's a great spa, and the pool area."
Ellie nodded enthusiastically. "I can't wait to dive into the pool," she said, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
