"Hmph, here I doubled your staff discount but just this once okay?" He murmurs in one of his elusive moments of goodwill. Sure it's only 10% up from the usual 5% but it's the thought that counts right?

"Aw, you really do like me huh?" You tease grinning. Doing so awards you with a smack on the head from the broom.

"Don't get smart with me young man!" He berates you, poking your chest with the broom handle.

You apologise and throw your hands up in surrender as you collect your now bagged items. You wish him goodnight and make your way to the stairwell that leads to your apartment, climbing each flight quicker than last. Approaching your apartment you take your keys out of your pocket and insert them into the keyhole rotating until you hear the lock open.

Making your way inside you are met with your tiny flat. Immediately on your right there's the bathroom which is slightly too narrow to have a conventional door and so instead you use a curtain to maintain privacy. The toilet is at the back of the bathroom and the shower is built into the wall, it's incredibly cramped that unless you stand completely straight you'll be poked in the back by the taps or up against the wall.

Continuing down the corridor there's a built in closet to your right where you keep all your belongings and then the "living area" which is the same width as the corridor so you can't even fit a proper furniture in here. Instead you have a small table with a mini fridge underneath and a box containing your kettle and hot plate as well as some utensils. Besides that there's your mother's room which is rather spacious but you don't go in there most of the time. Oh and the window with a wonderful view of the brick wall of the neighbouring building. How could you ever forget.

Since there's only one other room you sleep out in the corridor. You store a cheap foam mattress in your closet as you can fold it up when you aren't using it. Above that the shelf's of the closet hold all your clothes and other belongings.

And that's it. Excluding the bathroom and your mother's room what your apartment boils down to is a glorified corridor with 2 power outlets, a closet and a window. And you pay 150,000¥ a month for this shit show.

You sigh at the depressing sight as you place your dinner items in the fridge. You grab the kettle out of its box and head to the bathroom to fill it with water from the sink, deciding on instant ramen for dinner. As the water boils you stare at the envelope in your hand, debating whether to open it or not. On the one hand you want to find out if you got accepted  into U.A. but on the other hand what if you were rejected? You can't be disappointed if you never open it.

Welp only one way to find out you think tearing open the paper. It's not quite what you were expecting as a small metal thingie falls onto the table below you. Suddenly it lights up and projects a video of... All Might?

"Here I am in your room Young L/N! I have come to teach you and others just like you at U.A.!" The projection of All Might screams at you, does anyone at U.A. speak at a normal level? "You young man stood out even amongst the other recommendation candidates. Scoring an 88 on the written exam and doing the best on the practical exam ever! But just because you passed the exam with flying colours doesn't mean you won't be challenged. We expect great things from you at U.A. Young L/N, congratulations."

The projection recedes back into the device leaving you in complete silence. You did it. You can now say you're a student of U.A. the best hero school out there. You pull out your phone and send a picture of the acceptance letter to the group chat but don't expect a response any time soon so you figure you might as well try telling your mom. Knocking twice as you enter your mom sits on the edge of the bed staring at a photo of dad as she usually is. Despite her staying in her room all day she still looks tired, large bags hang under her bloodshot eyes. It's been 5 years and she still clings to him like he's still here.
