It's been a few weeks since the exams.

Which means you should receive your results any day now. However you're so lost in thought that you fail to react to the broom striking you in the back of the head.

"Young man I don't pay you to stand around now do I?" Mr Toraki scolds you waving the bristles of the broom in your face.

"Sorry Mr Toraki I'll get back to work right away." You apologise going back to stocking the shelves. Mr Toraki is your boss as well as the owner of Toraki's Convenience Store, a small store nestled under your apartment complex selling fresh produce and other similar items. Mr Toraki himself is a bitter old man but he has a soft spot for you, though most wouldn't call being beaten with a broom soft. You work here because when your father left someone had to make money so you and your mother still had a place to live, of course she wasn't in any state to work. Luckily for you Mr Toraki was more than happy to accept your child labour, maybe a little too happy. Not that you care, you're just grateful that you found a job when you needed to. He pays you a decent wage, it's only enough to pay for the essentials like food and rent but it's enough that you're surviving.

"Say have you heard back from that U.A. school you keep yapping about?" He asks grumpily. He pretends not to care or listen to the things you say but you know that deep down he cares for you in his own disgruntled way. You're certain it has something to do with his deceased son Botan, maybe you look like him?

"No not yet Mr Toraki but I'm expecting a response any day now." You say without stopping knowing if you do then your head will quickly be reacquainted with the broom.

"Hmph, well I'm gonna go have a nap you take over the register while I'm gone." he orders making his way to the storeroom which is really just his apartment. You salute him as he disappears behind the beads that serve as the door. Cashier duty is your least favourite part about this job, having to make mindless small talk with customers and standing in one spot for hours gets old really fast. If you had to think of one upside it'd be that you are well known to all the locals and so they leave you alone as the person who mans the till at the only reasonably priced and nearby grocery store.

Today's no different for the most part. There's the regulars, the regulars who barter, the regulars who try to shoplift, the shoplifters and the mailman... wait scratch that last one.

"Hey! Excuse me!" You yell waving your arm from behind the register to get his attention. He looks at you and smiles warmly, you hope that means he's finally brought the letter you've been pestering him about for weeks.

"Hello again is it that time of the week already?" He jokes as he opens up his bag filled with letters. "Now let's see apartment 44 was it? L/N residence?"

You nod impatiently, the excitement and foreboding possibility of failure being too much to bear. He chuckles at your impatience as he digs through his bag looking to see if you have any mail.

"Ah one letter for a Mr Y/N L/N." He says pulling out an envelope and handing it over to you. You thank him then take your position back behind the counter not wanting to face Mr Toraki's wrath. Immediately your eyes are drawn to the large red wax stamp holding the letter closed. There's also something inside it, well more than just paper that is.

"L/N! What's all this ruckus about?" Mr Toraki complains emerging from the storeroom rubbing his eyes.

"Oh Mr Toraki my letter from U.A. arrived, sorry about all that." You say fearing a swift thumping from a broom is coming your way.

"Hmph, well I guess you've been here long enough, you may go." He grumbles checking the store to make sure everything's how he left it.

"Thank you Mr Toraki." You bow, taking off your apron and hanging it on the rack behind the counter. You grab a couple items that you need from the shelves and make your way back to the register where Mr Toraki is now. "Just these please."
