A few minutes later a doctor came in with Amy's X-ray to show them what had happened.

"When Amy fell, she landed slightly on her back, which caused some damage to her spine, it isn't permanent and will heal over time, but it is what's causing the paralysis, so for now, she'll have to be in a wheelchair, but the main thing is to remember that it will only be for a few months".

Rory looked at his fiancé and saw that she was looking away from him and the doctor. "Amy?"

She shook her head and let go of Rory's hand, wiping tears away from her eyes.

Rory stood up and went outside the room to talk to the doctor, "how long will it take to heal?"

"It's hard to say, looking at the x-ray, I'd say about 4 to 5 months"

"Obviously in a wheelchair she's going to need help around the house, and I obviously have to work and do shopping and stuff, but I can't exactly leave her on her own".

"We do have home visitors, they could go to the house whilst you're at work, and I take it you have family that can help out".

Rory nodded, "yeah". He sighed and looked through the window at Amy who was still looking away, "this is going to be really hard for her, for both of us".

"I know, I'm really sorry Rory, I'll give you a minute while I go and get the wheelchair.

Rory went back into the room as the doctor went off and knelt down next to Amy, "Amy look at me".

She waited for a minute before moving her eyes to meet his gaze.

"It's going to be okay, I promise"

"I don't want to be in a wheelchair Rory, what if you leave me".

"Amy, never in a million years would I do that to you, I love you more than anything, nothing is ever going to get in the way of that". He kissed her gently and stroked her cheek, "I'm going to get someone to help you whilst I'm at work, and I'm going to take the first couple of weeks off so that I can help you and get used to it myself".

She nodded and took hold of his hand, "I love you"

"I love you too".
