Chapter 8

Stephanie's POV

"Logan?"

"Yeah?"

"What if that senior comes after you again?"I worry.

"He won't, and if he does I'll show him who's boss."

"But Logan what if you get hurt?"

"It'll be okay,"He reassures."But why did you wake up at five am to talk about this?"

"Oh, no reason."

"Stephanie..."

"Okay okay,"I reply."I had a nightmare."

"And let me guess, in this nightmare the senior came back for me and hurt me?"He assumes.

I nod.

He pulls me close and says,"Steph if it means keeping you safe I'll do it. It was what started our friendship in the first place remember."

Flashback

I sit below the school's playground oak tree. It's leaves moving softly to the autumn breeze. My sniffles are the only sounds disturbing the peace.

A figure begins to slowly make its way towards me.

Once the figure is close enough I recognize him as, Logan.

The boy that always spends his time talking about how he loves soccer.

"Hello."He greets.

"Hi."

"I'm Logan what's you're name?"

"I'm Stephanie."

"That's a pretty name."He compliments.

"Thank you."

"Why aren't you playing with the other girls?"

"They told me I wasn't pretty enough, and that if I tried to play they would hit me."

"I'll make sure they won't , now go play."

"They'll tell me I'm ugly."

"But you're very beautiful."

"Thanks Logan."

I walk over to the girls and slip myself into the game.

"Stephanie I said you can't play. Now I'm going to hit you." Lara explains.

She raises her hand and I see Logan grab her wrist and say,"Uh uh uh. You better not or I'm going to tell Ms.Garcia."

Lara pulls away and leaves.

"Thank you."

"You're very welcome. Now do you want to be best friends?"

I nod and smile taking his hand.

"And I promise, Stephanie as long as I'm with you , I'll make sure no one hurts you."

Flashback over

"And you've kept that promise, Logan. Thank you."

"And I'll keep it forever."

I smile and fall asleep to the beat of his heart.
