I roll over in bliss and she shifts next to me. Nothing like reading a classic novel on the beach. "Gloria, you've got to read this. Fitzgerald puts the beauty in literature." I know it's a fruitless pursuit. While my books sigh at the seams and breathe into me the experiences of a thousand lives, I'm certain that the only life she'd rather languish in was her own.
"Ugh, you know reading kills me, Jo. But hey, I'm still up for putting the "fun" in funeral if you truly insist."
