Smokescreen never joined the Elite Guard but instead was taken in as an Intern for Alpha Trion as they study a new crystal later this crystal comes in help but for now he lives under the radar on Earth till he becomes not so secret.

I was a normal bot living life nothing crazy Cybertron had no conflict for many years and everything had calmed down I always had a yearn for learning, that's why I was so excited when I finally finished Cybertonin school and got an apprenticeship under the Alpha Trion!
I was a bit confused though what made me stand out for Alpha Trion to pick me but it didn't matter I was starting soon and I could get mentored by one of the greatest bot to ever live.
Today was his first day of the apprenticeship and I was dashing through the streets of Cybertron to get there early not wanting anything to keep me from getting there late. I walking in a quick pace getting to the Halls Of Iacon I was a crazy early but it was worth it I waited outside wondering how I was gonna get in.
I was nervously standing outside before I spotted a guard and walked up to him.
"I-Uhh"
The guard looked over at me
"Hi U-uhh I'm Smokescreen I'm here to start my apprenticeship..?" I was so nervous it sounded like I was asking a question
The guard just nodded not needing any conformation which confused my a bit but it didn't matter the guard opened the door and let me in. I stood in awe as I say how beautiful the inside of the Hall Of Iacon looked I spotted an old bot that I recognized as the Alpha Trion He had a small smile on his face as he looked at me.
I started to walk tentatively towards Alpha Trion surprised that he would be waiting for me at the entrance instead of making me meet him in his library or where ever he worked.
As I walked closer to Alpha Trion I felt the warm and welcoming aroma he gave off. I smiled when I was standing about a few feet away from him.
"Hello Sir I-I'm Smokescreen" My voice was a bit shaky but he didn't seem to mind he just replied.
"Smokescreen how great it is to finally meet you" Alpha Trion said with a calm voice "Please walk with me" he turned around and started to walk down a hallway I quickly follow having to catch up a bit not knowing what to say.
"You must be wondering Smokescreen why I would pick you out of everybody else to be my apprentice? I nod as we continue to walk. Well it is because there is something different about you Smokescreen I can sense it I'm not sure what it is but I can sense it." That didn't make much sense to me but I wasn't about to start judging him.
We continue to walk before stopping at a door. Now Smokescreen I would like to teach you the most important things I know. Alpha Trion opens the door and walks in beckoning me to follow him I enter right behind him as we were now in a room with a desk and rows of the Cybertronin records over the thousands of year.
I stood in slight awe able to appreciate its beauty I took another step into the room before looking back down at Alpha Trion who was looking at me with a soft smile
"Well Smokescreen I'll just give you a quick tour around the place so you can get to know the names of some places so you know what I will be talking about"
I nod as he turns back around and continues walking with his hands behind his back as I follow him.
We first stopped and a small room that looked filled with crystals that were sparkling giving off there own soft glowing light. It was stunning to look into the crystals where all shades of any color you could think of each of them only about the half the size of my finger.

"This is the room of Shimmer." He looked at the room with a strong gaze "At least that's what I refer to it as, What do you think of it Smokescreen?"
I fumbled a bit before getting out a response "I-It looks amazing but what are those crystals made of? It doesn't look like energon and it has so many colors.."
"Those are Seniante Crystals they are special crystals found close to the center of this planet we have no idea what they do and I would like you and I to study them to find out what they could do. How does that sound?" He ended his explanation with a question as he turned away from these Seniante Crystals to look at me
That sounds wonderful I would love to study them with you Sir. I replied my voice laced with a tad of happiness and excitement at the thought of getting to study the crystals and maybe just maybe make a discovery that could change Cybertron as we know it!
Alpha Trion just nods as he turns back to the hallway as he shuts the door to the Shimmer room "Lets continue Smokescreen, I have many more rooms to show you so lets get on with it."
I followed him around for more then half they day learning about all the rooms and whats in them. Most of them help records of the Cybertron not to much important stuff all I could think about the Shimmer room it really intrigued me. We finally made it to a room that was right next to the main hall. Alpha Trion turned towards me.
"Smokescreen since I have since I have taken you in as my apprentice you will have to stay in a room close to where you will be working, I expect you to join my in the main hall of records to begin your work we will discuss what you will be doing more in detail tomorrow. Also one more thing" Alpha Trion hands me a cybertablet I take it in my hands and look down at it.
"I need you to first find all of these records and I want you to read them all finish that tonight cause it will come in handy tomorrow. Go find them after that read them in your knew place of stay then get some rest" And with that Alpha Trion went off walking back leaving me alone to begin to find the records I need.
Forgive me there are some apologize on why it took me so long to make such a short chapter but I swear I can explain!! This is what I wrote before I took a long break, and I came back to continue writing it and had to fix a lot of this chapter, and I have been adding on to this book so it got supper long so I split it into multiple chapters which I promise on my life after I finish editing them they will be posted soon!
