Author's note

Just a quick PSA. I know in other books and Irl situations the phrase "I want you/want to be with you" sometimes means a sexual desire for that person.

Just letting you know that the characters that use it here don't mean it like that, they're not looking for a sexual relationship but rather a romantic partnership to heal and grow together. Just so you guys don't get confused by the meaning because I mean, this is Wattpad, there's weird stuff everywhere.

Quailius face and voice claim: Ileana D'Cruz.
Tamar face and voice claim: Shemar Moore.

Anyways enjoy~~

"So, the group he's a part of plans on starting a war with the Beasts for territory and more political prowess. But 'for the tribe, not themselves' which sounds like a bald-faced lie. And he was their weapons stockpiler?" Quailius made sure she understood the details of Tamar's recap. "So, in short, they're insane."

"Yeah. That's what I got between punches anyway. And the way he wants to do it is, get this, they're going to try and assassinate the Beast Alpha. Then they'll leave someone behind so they know it's the serpents' fault. How stupid is that?" Tamar was leaning back in the burgundy copilot's chair, normally he'd have his arms folded behind his head for comfort, but he'd tried and it was far too painful near his ribs to attempt. Not that he'd tell Quailius, though. She was already weird enough as it was. Why is she all concerned about me now? She's been threatening to mutilate me half the trip. He had to admit it was flattering, and he liked her showing a more caring side. He got to see it so rarely. But it wasn't the coldness he was used to and had grown to admire. So he was trying to figure her out.

Quailius perked up, her hood tensing. "An assassination? I'll contact Tess once we get home and tell her."

"Tess?" Tamar inquired.

"Tesserya, the Beast Alpha. She's my friend. And if they're planning to kill her for a power trip, I need to warn her." Quailius' eyes held determination. Tamar arched a brow and tilted his head, eyes widening as he let a comedic pause linger.

"..you have friends?" That part of the sentence had been more surprising to him than the identity of said friend.

"No. I have a friend. But the way I know Tess isn't important, just know that I do. And we'll tell Floyd this to report to Alpha Xander. That's all we can do." She shrugged.

"Unfortunately, yeah. We better hope that Tesserya of yours keeps her wits about her. If another war broke out," Tamar's brothers, his whole family, flashed through his mind. "It'd be bad for us. So many would suffer."

"Hm, our village is pretty unimportant, and it's not like there's a draft. If there's a war, the most we'll get is more jobs, which I don't see as a bad thing." Quailius slouched in her chair, tapping at the console.

"Quailius. Come on." Tamar straightened. "Just because it doesn't put you in danger doesn't mean it's not wrong. Would you want someone you cared about to be in the line of fire? Or your family go through a food shortage because the trade deals are on pause?" He asked seriously. I don't like how nonchalant that was. She has to care at least somewhat.

Quailius' hood raised, like he'd offended her. "I don't have people to care about." She paused, something strange flashed across her face, like she was going to reply with a sarcastic remark, but hesitated. "And I don't have a family to worry about. So I don't see how that's my problem."

Tamar's demeanor changed instantly. He'd already assumed that Quailius had an estranged past with her family because she never spoke of them even when he told stories of his six siblings and their shenanigans to pass the time. She always seemed far off in those moments. He'd assumed she was outcast, but still didn't know how. Were are they all dead?
